I don't recall if I ever posted this, and it happened quite a few years ago: I was checking into a hotel and was wearing an FCA polo shirt. The guy looks at my shirt, and asks me if I owned horses. I replied "no, that's the Ferrari emblem". He said "Oh, do you have one?". I said yes. He then says "my buddy has a Ferrari. He built it himself, but it's a Ferrari". I simply said "That's good".
I made a brief appearance at a car show this past weekend. A guy walks up to me and says "I can't like your car because I am a Ford guy" then walks away. What surprised me the most is at this type of car show it's usually some brand loyal boomer with a hulk hogan mustache that says the stupid ****, but this guy was mid 20s. On a Facebook group I posted my F1 parts from my 360 for sale since I did a manual conversion. This dude came on there saying how I better keep them for when I sell the car. I told him I'm not selling the car. This dude got angry and said I can't keep it forever (which is fair) but said my car won't last much longer because I'm going to crash it since I will only have 1 hand on the wheel instead of 2 (like 400 hp is hard to control). He said I ruined my car because all modern ferraris have to be paddle shift (which was an option on the 360). I really should have figured out the vin on his 430 so I can buy it and convert it to manual when he dies. Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
This guy owns a 430? Hard to believe that a Ferrari owner would disparage a manual transmission...It defines the Ferrari mystique.
I don't believe so. I ended up blocking him after he went on my profile looking for pictures of my car to talk **** about it. Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Certainly. Dude was obnoxious. Apparently stripping a bolt makes me unable to work on cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
And then there are those of us who choose to get directly involved in what the car is doing \, what we want it to do, and when. I made the decision to reinvest in a lot of $$$ in my 308 GTBi and hope to drive as long as I'm able. I learned on and have always preferred shifting (my '50 Studebaker convertible, '53 MGTD, '54 Jag 120, '60 Kharman Ghia, 64 Baracuda, 66 Corvair Corsa, 7 of 9 VWs, '90 Audi Quatro coupe, 97 Chevy S10 truck, '02 Porsche Boxster, etc...I leave our 2 automatic cars for my wife and guests (who can't drive a manua)l. In case you think my wife doesn't know how to use a manual, she is the one who chose to buy a manual Boxster and drove it top-down 10 out of 12 months a year. I learned driving a stick shift and taught my three kids and grand kids as well ...You have to admit, driving a manual car forces a driver to pay more attention to driving and less attention elsewhere. So, you will beat me whenever we theoretically race, but I will beat you driving the back roads by a country SMILE. No offense to paddle shifters (they are the now and foreseeable future...BUT... Long live my dog-legged gated manual shifter!!!
