The 355F1 I am helping with has a shifting issue. It does not down shift to 2nd gear while moving. The pump is weak and comes on every shift so that is at least one problem. Needless to say, there is no SD2 around so I can't check leakage rate, system pressure, or anything else. This car has 120,000 miles on it with the original gearbox so who knows what else is worn out inside the box.

I am thinking to replace the F1 pump (retrofit kit) and the accumulator (the bomb) and see how it goes. Anyone can think of anything else that can cause low system pressure?

Can the pressure switch give an impression that the pressure is low, therefore runs the pump continuously?

Is there anything, specifically (mechanical), which would cause no problem with gearshift when stationary, but cause issues when the car is running, moving? Hopefully not sliders. They are hard to find, too.

    Are there any lights?

Don't have any advice on the shifting problem, but pretty cool there's a 120k mile 355 out there. Still running on original engine or has it been apart before?

Clutch does that. But, supposedly its clutch is newish. Although I think the pressure sensor should be replaced after 120,000 miles.

A few engine outs but never been apart (like a valve job). Although, I do smell it coming before too long.

That's remarkable. Never thought a 355 could go 120k, or even close to it, on original guides.

Seems like you work on a lot of 355s, both manual and F1's. Ever thought about purchasing a Galileo tool specific the 355? I purchased one prior to embarking on my first engine out which included replacing the clutch. The tool is fantastic and interfaces with all the component ECUs on the 355.
