Certainly the pit stops could have been much better. But I am very happy with the results compared to earlier in the season. I loved Leclerc's challenging of Max in the opening laps. And I thought Sainz' late race duel with Perez was great...wonderful racing. Sainz seems to do the close racing very well. This weekend they had both qualifying speed and race pace. Not faster than Red Bull but getting closer. In the post race session when the podium drivers were in the waiting room, Max was saying something (I don't know what) that really got a surprised look from Leclerc...my first thought was that Max may have given away a team secret. Mercedes is getting better but they were way off pace today. Whining about it certainly isn't going to help Hamilton in his contract negotiations. Glad to see Norris and McLaren putting on a good show. AM seems to have lost a bit, and I was hoping they'd keep Mercedes back in third for the constructors' championship. The rain didn't help the Sprint so I'm glad the rest of the weekend was dry.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/fia-upholds-aston-martin-protest-f1-austrian-gp-results-set-to-change/10490799/

Aston Martin lodged its appeal against the provisional race classification after claiming that a number of cars were not penalised for potentially having breached track limits repeatedly.

The FIA has since revealed it was unable to review all reports of cars having strayed beyond the painted white lines with all four wheels during the race since there were over 1200 cases during the 71 laps.

The stewards have found Aston Martin’s protest to be admissible given that a list of deleted lap times provided by race control has revealed cases of track limit infringements that were not previously referred to the stewards.

Furthermore, it has been determined that some of these infringements likely warrant a penalty that was not previously applied during the race or when the provisional classification was issued.

These will therefore be reflected in a yet-to-be-released final classification.

The governing body is looking at all 1200-plus incidents as part of its immediate post-race review. However, Aston Martin’s protest is likely to specifically target Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz.

The Spaniard was already hit with one five-second penalty for exceeding track limits. A second 5s reprimand would possibly drop the fourth-placed driver behind McLaren driver Lando Norris. A more severe punishment would relegate him behind Aston’s own Fernando Alonso.

they are horrible. As they say a well officiated game is one in which you don’t know the umpire/referee’s name at the end of the game. FIA are constantly interjecting themselves into every facet of F1 and it’s not good.

If that was the case then Carlos could have possibly opened up the gap, To plus 5 over Norris and plus ten over Alonso.

    AM really looking average lately….

Ferrari's pace was objectively poor compared to Red Bull - Verstappen had the luxury of being able to make an additional pit stop, and Perez was able to come back from the back of the grid.
Mercedes is still struggling, but they are recovering from their initial design mistake, while Ferrari is just not a serious contender.

Yes Aston and Mercedes have taken a slight step back with respect to this circuit. RedBull were almost 30 seconds over Ferrari before Max decided to take fastest lap lol. Circuit resisting gravel trap in 2 different turns 9 and 10 due to MotoGP.

Yeah, I don't get why the team held him back in the beginning of the race... He was faster than LeC and could have gone after Max, and at the same time bring LeC with him by allowing DRS for LeC if he could keep up.

Maybe this will be the impetus needed to come up with a better solution. It's a bad joke as it stands currently.

A clever protest on the part of Aston Martin.

So how is it that Sainz got *another* penalty, while Perez -- who had the black and white flag shortly before the race end -- didn't get a penalty?

They found all those "extra" track limits violations on all those other drivers, but didn't find a single additional one on Perez?

Seems Sainz ticked off FIA by finishing ahead of 5th place, so they dropped him from 4th to 6th ... to average 5.

I'm going to hazzard a guess and assume Perez didn't have any more off tracks after the black and white so therefore didn't warrant a penalty. Mind you I'm utterly amazed at that given his Friday.

Bet Lewis wishes he'd keep his mouth shut and concentrated on staying between the lines rather than saying how terrible his car is. Win together, lose together...right?

Unreal. I feel as the cars cross the line..that's the race. Penalties shouldn't be handed out afterwards. Ya snooze..ya loose..simple as that. There has to be a margin in there someplace. This is ridiculous.
