The non CS TCUs especially doesn't communicate with the x431

Piggybacking off of this, will the thinkdiag2 also run an actuator bleed on an 03 360? Receipts indicate the tcu’s also been flashed to CS spec by the previous owner.
I’m looking to swap in a new/old actuator to fix my leaking internal seals, and would like to try to carry out the swap myself.
    Thanks!

Is that 100% the case? Only the CS TCU is supported? I don't have a CS, but I change the PIS without issues using the x431. I know my TCU was swapped out at some point, but I didn't check the numbers. Does this mean I have a CS TCU?

IIRC .. somewhere in 2003 the TCU can be read by x431 .. so not only CS .. just don't have a date/number of crossover

This is what I used from the AV engineering website when I was looking for one to reprogramme.

But in the end I found a CS TCU part number # 196986 on here to fit to my car

Bumping this - did you get the thinkdiag2, did it work ? I'm in exactly the same spot you were in needing to do the PIS.

To offer my .02, I have an ‘03 360 with a CS-flashed TCU. I bought the Thinkdiag2 so I could swap my actuator and do the bleeds, self learns, etc.
I haven’t swapped the actuator yet, but I did run a self learn, self centering, PIS read and clutch life readout just to make sure the tool could communicate with my TCU and perform the necessary functions. Worked like a charm. Looking forward to swapping the actuator and doing the bleeds and seeing if it improves shifting at all.

I did! I got it off amazon for $148 shipped. Worked great, and thanks for @flash32 for his help on this!

I set the PIS and the car feels 10x better now.

What did you set the PIS to? I recall the factory setting being 4.8-5.2 (or was it 4.2-4.8?) if I’m correct, but I seem to remember people setting it to smaller values to improve bite and reduce slip? Mine was set to 3.875 by the previous shop who flashed the TCU to CS spec. I’ve often wondered if this was too low?

My final setting was 4.19, checked the engine RPM against trans RPM and also the 1st gear "lift" test and all checked out.

Keep your eye on the clutch wear index ( don't recall if you tcu was displaying that) . That will give you an indication of how good your PIS is. Also keep tabs on overheat seconds

Can you elaborate on these two points? What is an ideal clutch wear index, and how should that progress over the life of the clutch, ideally?
Re: overheat seconds, I assume “0” is the ideal number, but what is considered an “acceptable” parameter when factoring in intermittent less-than-ideal occasions such as extra slip when starting out on a steep incline, etc. ie, situations where the PIS is fine, but you had an instance of poor take-off/engagement? (Yes, I’m thinking of an occurrence of this very situation of mine )

    Thanks

Clutch wear index .. somewhere between 2500 to 3500 ..it continually gets updated based on driving patterns ..look for trends

The same for overheating seconds .. I have yet to see zero on any car .. just look for unexplained increases..it should remain pretty stable if all is functioning ok
