Missing the point about physical needles and buttons. Today's switches are physical but digital behind them. We equate buttons, knobs, switches and needles with sports cars and race cars of the past. Digital displays instantly date the car eliminating its chances of being timeless which is also something enthusiasts desire. Watch a movie with a TV tube in it and it wreaks of age in a bad way. The only noticeable screen that should be in a Ferrari is the wind screen.
Meanwhile, race cars of the present don't have a single physical gauge... Image Unavailable, Please Login Just another case of people living in the past...
Looks like all of those buttons on there are physical. Unlike the ones you can accidentally brush across to activate on the modern-day cars. I wonder why that is?
Nah MC20 weights the same as the 296 already, so misses the possible target by 5-600lbs. Its visibly larger than the ferrari, motor sounds like something from honda. Im talkign about a 3200lbs or less 296, beautiful style, fully resolved by ferrari steering and that cracker of a motor. IE a 296 that weights what gt3 does. Easy to do just scrap the electrics. Imo the Mc20 may be a used buy with low miles at 180k. Its a italian corvette, and I like vettes but theyre not ferraris for a multiplicity of reasons..
I just don’t get how they managed to make it weigh more than the 296 with a carbon monocoque and no hybrid assist. Must’ve been a challenge!
Past or in the present? I see at least 30 mechanical buttons, knobs, and wheels. No touch screens or PC tablets. Great picture and very inviting cockpit.
For the third time, my argument was about the needles, as you called them. As I said earlier, physical buttons are more intuitive. No need to have needles though, if you are after a race car layout. A screen gives you more display options and information.
Any Pista owners jump to or add a 296? I can't stand to look at them but the performance has peaked my interest.
You can’t stand looking at this? Image Unavailable, Please Login I get the issues with the front and back but the side profile is immaculate.
Not sure if that is a jump.. I think a better jump today would be a used Assetto Fiorano SF90 Coupe, that’s what I did, ordered a new AF SF90 Coupe, had 2 Pistas at the time in 2 different countries, and yes LHD does feel better than RHD, and after extensive trials in AF SF90, made my Pistas redundant, sold both in 6 weeks.. and boy do I not miss that lithium battery nightmare in the Pistas, the SF90 charging is night & day, imagine 296 the same.
All comments here are strictly my opinion and like. I guess I am in the minority but I kept my Pista while having the 296 and SF90. It's a lighter car by 200-250lbs and 350-400lbs respectively. I can feel the weight difference in the ability to quickly place the car. Out of mid-engine drives, the 458, Pista and 296 each give me a different drive when pushed. For a pure power stream, the 296 is the best IMO. For best noise, the obvious 458. For handling, an edge to the Pista (for me). For all around fun, the 296GTB.
thanks for sharing your perspectives. Agree that each ferrari offers its own experience…one of the aspects i love about the brand. Have you had a chance to drive a speciale? Similar to you my personal opinion. Not a good or bad for any car. I have a 458 and i recently drove a speciale and pista back to back. Speciale has the sound and the handling (Italia sounds better than speciale). No denying the brut power of the pista compared to the 458 platform. It was impressive how much better the front end is on the speciale over the italia. For me, personally, that was the moment of clarity that i will give up the Italia for a speciale. Any other rear-mid engine ferrari can only compliment it but not replace it.
For me the Pista is the 'roughest' of these cars. The 458 does feel underpowered below 5500rpm. 296 is most refined. I like the Pista the best because it's uncivilized and connects the most with the driver.
Hoping this helps those who want to get the VS/ XX 296. I am merely passing this along from someone I trust. 296 XX/ VS qualifications: 1) You have to be a current 296 owner to be considered for a 296 XX/ VS..meaning... 2) You must have a 296 in your garage to get a XX/ VS order. Not sure if you have to still own your 296 once the order for the XX/ VS is placed and you are granted a build allocation. XX/ VS spots are rewarded to true owners not short-term flippers. 3) There appears to be an SF track and a 296 track. Don't assume you will be given a 296 XX/ VS spot if you have an SF90. 4) Like the SF90 XX these will be numbered cars. I believe the SF 90 XX coupes are limited to 799 and I believe the Spiders are limited to a total of 500. Expect something similar with the 296. 5) Ferrari is picking the buyers, not the dealer. This is different from the previous VS car (Pista) where the dealer decided. Of course, the dealer decides who they choose to sell their 'normal' 296s to. Assuming these details are correct these changes/ updates will be good. Less dealer politicking. Porsche is going to have to adopt something similar as the 918 VIP program ends soon. Hope this helps.
You will get a VS 296, lot of inaccuracies in the above statement.. and a few 296 cancellation slots are appearing, of course 296 ownership will rubber stamp it, but 296 VS will be built in usual numbers, no relation to SF90 XX Limited Edition.. there are some limited V6’s coming down the track but VS 296 ain’t one of them.. I would say your odds are good just spend some time at your dealer and go on some of their events..GL
I was merely passing along with I was told....where are the inaccuracies? Would be good to have all the intel here. When is the 296 VS/ XX being announced/ orders assigned and cars delivered? Does anyone have insight on that?
I would say the 296 VS is still at leat 2 years out given that orders of the regular model stretch into late 2026....there is no way this is already determined in this level of precision
I imagine this car will follow the likes of the more entry level V8s of the past. Lots of VS models produced. The spider will be the question…numbered or not. Of course this is just my reasoning. I got a Pista without a 488. I imagine all VIPs can get one, but time will tell!
Agree, wait and see. I doubt you are going to get accurate information in a public forum right now. If you like the car get it, and see what happens. Using the SF90 as a guide is not a bad idea but, who knows, they might not copy it exactly. Ferrari likes to mix it up and surprise its clients. Just keep that all in mind. One thing is for sure, getting the cars doesn’t hurt your chances. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
