After 14 years of ownership I have made a hard decision to sell my beloved 1995 348 spider.
I have made many friends and many great memories with this car and I hope to pass her on to someone who will love her as much as I have.
I drive this car, it’s no garage queen and she gets the best of care and I have upgraded things to make the car the best it can be.
I listed it in the classified section here on FChat and have submitted it to BAT and waiting to hear back.

Highly recommend not listing it here (or anywhere publicly) before listing on bat. First off, they’re not keen on it and secondly, you don’t want bidders discovering what you really want for the car by googling the VIN or otherwise coming across your ad.

Lucas are you on BAT under the username retrophit?
Figured it might be you since the name is the same as you use here without the dot in the middle.

Thanks for confirming, I figured as much.
    Question for you:
If you were so concerned about warning me about my early Fchat ad that I had up while waiting on going to BAT.
"you don’t want bidders discovering what you really want for the car by googling the VIN or otherwise coming across your ad." (see above)
Why did you post it on my for sale thread on BAT?
Essentially making you the person you were warning me about.

I’m a little taken aback. I posted that warning 11 days before you car went live. You didn’t heed it. Why would I assume you cared? Why would you assume I have more allegiance to you than to the BaT community as a whole? We’ve never even interacted before now, to the best of my knowledge.

You posted your reserve on a public forum, bud. Open to the world. That’s on you.

    Thanks for your explanation.
I was not aware one needed to heed warnings from you given here on Fchat and yes it was on a public forum as I was waiting on BAT to respond before pulling and closing my ad here on Fchat, but it was you that made it known and not some random person who found it as you said "discovering what you really want for the car by googling the VIN or otherwise coming across your ad."
You simply went out of your way to make it known.
I am unaware how in doing that it was some "allegiance to the BAT community as a whole" since my reserve harms no one except apparently you and apparently you have no loyalty to your fellow Fchat members here.
I just wanted to hold a mirror up to you and your behavior so other members on Fchat understand what kind of member you are.
If you feel it is justified and that you are some kind of hero to the BAT community that says more than anything else I can say.

    1) Your ad is still up. Why haven’t you taken it down? It’s been DAYS since your car went live! Once bat accepts your car you usually get WEEKS before it goes live. You must have known it had been accepted BEFORE you posted your ad on FC. I’ve sold two cars there. I’m well-versed in the process.

    2) It’s against BaT policy to list cars elsewhere anyway.

    3) You made a dumb decision. You ignored my suggestion to remove it. You made your bed. Grow up.

    4) You should be THRILLED if your car gets $75k. It won’t. That’s a ridiculously high reserve in the current market and for the condition of your car. I didn't ruin anything for you.

Well, you are simply wrong as no BAT had not accepted my car before I posted on Fchat as I was told it would take up to 3 days before they would let me know if they would accept my car so I posted and waited for their response.
In regards to my Fchat ad maybe since you have only been member here for a little over a year you don't understand how Fchat works, let me explain.
My ad was marked as "Taken off Market" on Thursday July 26th which is all Fchat will do, they do not remove or delete posts, feel free to asks the mods or Rob.
This was shared with my BAT rep and he gave me written confirmation that this was acceptable that same day which was before my BAT ad went live on Friday July 7th.
BAT did not accept my car weeks before it went live, so at least in my case you would be very wrong, maybe it was different for you I cannot say, nor will I speculate as things change.
So apparently you are not as well-versed as you think.

    2) It’s against BaT policy to list cars elsewhere anyway.
As I mentioned above "This was shared with my BAT rep and he gave me written confirmation that this was acceptable that same day which was before my BAT ad went live on Friday July 7th."
So I was never in violation of any BAT policy and my BAT sales rep was aware and communicated.

    3) You made a dumb decision. You ignored my suggestion to remove it. You made your bed. Grow up.
I think based on all of the comments I have made versus yours it is clear who needs to grow up.

    4) You should be THRILLED if your car gets $75k. It won’t. That’s a ridiculously high reserve in the current market and for the condition of your car. I didn't ruin anything for you.
Now we get to the core of it.
My reserve somehow offends your sense of value and you think you know the market and what prices people should be using so you attack me with "You should be THRILLED if your car gets $75k. It won’t. "
Also you end with "I didn't ruin anything for you." Yes you are correct, but it was never about that, it was simply about you lacking common courtesy.

In life there is something called common courtesy, here is the definition:
Common courtesy is politeness that people can usually be expected to show. It is a respectful act or remark that can make the world a better place.
You seem to lack it and justify and defend your actions with things like:
I posted that warning 11 days before your car went live.
    You didn’t heed it.
Why would I assume you cared?
Why would you assume I have more allegiance to you than to the BaT community as a whole?

I would never do what you did to any Fchat member regardless of what I think about someone's pricing and that even includes you as its just simple common courtesy.
I don't know if you own a 348 since you do not have a verified owner designation, but if you do you should be rooting for every 348 to sell for as much as possible as it only makes your (if you own one) more valuable.
I will no longer respond to this thread as I've said all I want.

I can’t make heads or tail of that rant so I’ll just say this: good luck with it. I hope it brings $150k. “A rising tide lifts all boats”.

I apologize if I posted anything out of line yesterday in this thread. I was taken aback by by the sudden criticism from the OP on an 12-day old (at the time) post and I got overly defensive. The truth is: I want every 348 to sell for a million bucks -- why wouldn't I -- and I hope this one does great. As for sharing the reserve: I stand by posting that on BaT. As far as I am/was concerned it is/was public information.

Just my two cents I would never in a million years by a Ferrari sight unseen at any price point on BAT. I wouldn't even buy a dirt bike without kick starting it revving it up and riding it and shifting through the gears there's just too many things that can be wrong with it. I've sold all my cars over the years either on Auto Trader, Hemmings or Ferrari Market letter.

Bought mine sight unseen on Autotrader. It was (mostly) fine. Live a little.

what was the purpose of your post on Bat?

If you are part of this community why would you interfere with another member’s for sale ad?

I have loyalty to people I know, who I’ve had positive interactions with, who’ve helped me, etc. I don’t have blanket loyalty to everyone with a username on a forum of which I happen to also be a member.

FWIW, recommend reversing your approach. All members should have loyalty apart from those who have shown otherwise. You never know who will jump in one day to help you.

so, unless you’re referring to a loyalty to everyone that views BAT, you elected to post to the world rather than those you have a greater loyalty to, presumably over this community?

If your post is truthful, I would suggest removing the bat post and individually communicating with those you have a concern with.

It is refreshing to see you let the car go to a NEW Ferrari owner at a great price. It is clear you enjoyed owning, driving, AND maintaining it! I bought my first Ferrari a 348 spider last year. It was owned by a respectful person as well that let me in to the thrill of owning a Ferrari. I have since bought another. It does suck that there are clearly dick heads that own them as well. Hopefully we new and respectful owners don't let them ruin it for others. Thank you and we welcome the new owner here!
