He has Max' respect it appears!! Appears to be doing good work for the team. A professional. Its a good development for the very uninteresting season overall.

Verstappen: Ricciardo impressing after "reset" ahead of F1 test return
Max Verstappen says it is no surprise that Daniel Ricciardo has been impressing Red Bull after electing to take a Formula 1 career "reset".

Ricciardo signed up as Red Bull’s third driver this year in a bid to rebuild his career after losing his seat at McLaren following two disappointing campaigns.

And while Red Bull admitted that the Australian seemed out of sorts with his driving during his first runs in the team’s simulator, he made rapid progress to get back up to speed and is now viewed as an important weapon in the squad’s war chest.

Ricciardo will get his first run in Red Bull’s 2023 F1 car at Silverstone this week as part of the post-British Grand Prix Pirelli test.

And, if he impresses the squad there, it could boost his chances of it electing to put him back in a race seat in 2024.

Verstappen has been working closely with Ricciardo this season and has said that the impressive job he is doing should really have been expected considering his talent.

“He's doing a good job in the simulator,” explained Verstappen. “But you know, that's not something I'm amazed about.

“Of course, he had difficult years at McLaren, but you don't lose your talent. And, of course, he also has a lot of experience.

Publicity stunts have kept Ricciardo busy in 2023 - but he's also done some serious work behind the scenes

“I think he also just feels very comfortable with us at the moment. He says so himself, and that he took a bit of a step back to reset himself. In the end, he just feels at home in our team.

“Of course, he has been with this team long enough. He is now in the simulator and listens very well to what we are saying. He also asks a lot.

“I know Daniel very well, so we can talk about a lot of things. I can ask him if he wants to test something for me on the simulator or what his opinion is on a particular thing, future parts, all that kind of stuff.”

Ricciardo’s solid job for Red Bull comes at a time when the future of regular driver Sergio Perez has been in the spotlight after a run of recent disappointing qualifying results.

Yet another failure to make it through to Q3 in the British Grand Prix, the fifth consecutive race it has happened, fuelled talk that he could be under pressure to retain his seat, despite having a firm contract in place.

Red Bull insists, however, that it is not considering anyone other than Perez at the moment, and its stance will remain unchanged as long as the Mexican is second in the drivers’ championship standings.

Asked if Perez’s qualifying struggles could start being a cause for concern for Red Bull, Verstappen said: “You have to ask Helmut [Marko] or Christian [Horner] about that. But yes, of course, we are also fighting for the team championship. But I think I can do that on my own at the moment!

True for any driver lol. Not sure why we are worried. He is on his own and has another chance on the grid. Lucky man. Well done and I wish him the best. An exciting development in the Accounting Engineering Championship that is already over lol :)

Drove Max’s car during the Pirelli tire test and supposedly did times that would have put him on the front row of the grid. We shall see if he can do anything good with arguably the worst car this year.

Good point. Over-all bad cars do not make good drivers look 'good' as its 90% or more car now. We see good drivers in mid pack not making impact.

I think the real question is do they want a 'good' driver setting similar times as Max and be next to him.............?????????????? They appear to actually want to avoid that at RedBull lol.

Ricciardo was 7/10's off Max's pole time. Not really the front row of the grid.

Not bad though given his time away from F1.

So much patience for Tsunoda and so little for De Vries.

Well, even if Ricciardo fails, just for the extra media attention it's worth a try. Although I guess the main objective is putting more pressure on Pérez.

Horner is happy to see his old pupil back in the king class:"It is great to see Daniel hasn’t lost any form while away from racing." The 34-year-old driver covered a tyre test for Red Bull earlier on Tuesday. Ricciardo impressed:"His times during the tyre test were extremely competitive. It was a very impressive drive." According to the Briton, the progress he had made in the simulator was reflected on the tarmac.

Daniel Ricciardo has left a huge impression on Red Bull. The Australian covered a tyre test for Pirelli earlier on Tuesday. His lap times were very impressive, reports Lawrence Barretto writing for F1.com.
According to the journalist, Ricciardo's lap times were so fast that he would have been on the front row of the grid during qualifying for the British Grand Prix, provided he was in Max Verstappen' s or Sergio Perez's car. Ricciardo will spend the next six months on loan driving for AlphaTauri. The driver will have six months to prove

Perez will finish the 2023 year. Honey badger will beat Yuki despite Yuki 1/2 season head start. 2024 team will be max and honey badger at RB. Car will suck. Hammy will win 8th wdc and retire. Lec will go to merc for a hammy/rossberg toxic team battle with Russell. Honey badger will impress at RB but max still #1 and Danny ric goes to ferrari

I quite enjoy Perez for who is he and what he has done in the background but agree. He looks like he lost a mojo. That or somewhat like Danny can't come to terms with the car for Max.

A competitor will never want to give up but maybe he should look back at all he has done as a driver and call it quits on his terms. With that being said still plenty of time...the Doc may not think so though.

The only reason Tsunoda is still around is because of Honda. Probably only kept him safe till the end of 2023. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tsunoda gone next year, unless he can hold his own against Ricciardo.

De Vries, RBR couldn't have gave a turd about him. They have no loyalty to their own drivers let alone a rent a driver from Mercedes.

RB played a blinder here, get rid of the non-performing driver, evaluate Ric to see where he goes, Perez if Ric performs is really on his toes, and this opens the door for Lawson as well. Ric doesn't perform? Add Lawson next year. Ric performs and Perez doesnt? Ric to RB, Lawson to AT....neither ric or perez performs? Palou to RB.

F1 is pure results driven. De Vries showed no signs of improvement or hints of capability. He was Mercedes test driver for how long? 3 years I believe. And before that almost 10 years of Mclaren young driver programme. If it wasn't for Albons' apendix exploding Merc would never have given him a seat. Red Bull gave him the chance, warned him plenty when he didn't improve...and when he still didn't, he's gone. It's quite simple. His family now crying to the Dutch news is just silly. ''oh, we didn't see it coming'' Really? I mean...really? Is his entire family blind and deaf? "we thought he had at least until the Dutch GP...it would've been nice". So they did see it coming, surely. And F1 isn't a charity. Sorry, no sympathy from me.

Alpha Tauri is one of the worst teams on the grid, if not the worst at times. Deliberately kept underfunded by Red Bull.
How do they expect a driver who starts in F1 to show any brilliance after a few races on a car that doesn't perform anyway.
It's a double whammy: inexperienced driver + bad car ! And you have to show talent in 10 races or Marko swings the axe.
Do you think Lawson will fare better ? He has been doing GT since he left F2; does that prepare him for F1?

It makes no sense to deliberate underfund a team. None.

Inexperienced driver? You're aware that De Vries is probably the MOST experienced driver to come to F1 in about 2 decades?

He didn't need to show brilliance. He needed to show competence. He failed and therefore shown the door.

It depends what you call experience. Years in lower categories, and sports cars hardly prepare you for F1.
De Vries is a newcomer in F1; time on simulators and reserve driver status in a team don't replace the actual driving.
I can see in de Vries exactly what happened to many drivers that went through the Red Bull B team; Brendon Hartley for example.
I am not saying he would necessarilly make it, but sacking him mid-season is rather hasty, I think.
Call me cynical if you want, but I see in that move more than meet the eyes.

It depends what you want to do with the B team.
Alpha Tauri is just a testing bench for new drivers in the Red Bull organisation.
It doesn't need to be very good to fill that role, hence he has been kept "low-cost" for years.
The budget figures revealed season after season have shown that.

Look at logan Sargeant for example. He's got far less experience but shows he's learning. I wouldn't have rated him higher than De Vries prior to either stepping into F1 (And I never rated De Vries highly).

Piastri is something special so I can't consider him as a bench mark.

De Vries got more seat time in the time he spend with Red Bull then all his time at Mclaren and Mercedes junior programme combined. The data (which is far more than you and I can see) clearly shows he's not improving so they booted him out. I don't see anything wrong with it. It's the top 20 best in the world, supposedly. If you can't even improve, you know where the door is.

If they kept him on the books longer RB would get complaints why they wouldn't let someone worthy have that seat.
