No, it isn't just you. It has been happening since this morning we've been under massive traffic attacks. We have really good people on it with Kirill in development and Jon our admin.

Yes, the bad dudes have landed some punches, but we'll prevail and there will be some lessons learned for our firewall. Before someone asks the dumb question, yes we had all kinds of firewall and other protections, but they have been getting around it. We had also not got our new server back up to 100% configuration yet.

Anything serious that would warrant a password change?

Guess I'll have to be productive at work now :D

It could be a million reasons or just random. Either way we should pay them for the exercise because we'll be Fort Knox by the time this is over.

Years ago I ran a server for a popular forum with a premium option. That site was under attack constantly by password and DDOS attacks. Eventually, I just told the customer to go away as I was tired of defending them constantly. It was quite a lot of work to keep up with the bad guys. The funny thing is there was zero commercial motive. These attackers were all just people with nothing better to do, or disagreed with the content. No money was made that I know of.

You certainly have my condolences. What a waste of valuable resources. Chasing losers.

I've been able to get on most of the time on computer but the app won't work at all.... is it a separate issue with the app?

Unfortunately these losers" are popping up in all walks of life. I look at roadways and traffic as a barometer of civility. We have the most divided and hostile population to each other I have ever seen in my lifetime to full road rage to Passive aggressive speed up to a slow car and the parallel to plug up the 2 lane road. Then people wonder why people get hostile on the road. Internet is down right violent.

All the community is with you! Personally I don’t care about Facebook, Twitter and all other platforms, Fchat is the only community where I like to be.

Android & iOS apps are both dead. Android crashes, iPad gives error after attempting to log in (which is usually not necessary at all)

It is functioning for me right now and loads are low, so I think you should clear your cache.

Using CloudFlare will certainly help if not solve the DDOS attacks, there is no way your server address should be accessible to anyone, if they can hit your server ports something isn’t configured correctly. In the end we had to move to AWS to really lock things down.

It sucks when this happens, unfortunately someone can pay very little to cause a lot of pain to someone else, especially if they are not behind Cloudflare or cloudfront.

Password attacks are all about finding a thread to pull on and trying that user+pass on millions of other sites and leveraging any access for more access. If we could convince everyone to stop reusing passwords everywhere, this type of attack would go away all on its own.

DDOS attacks on forums like this in my experience are usually about testing new tooling on the attacker side -- test your weapons on a softer target first before going after your real target.

Hacking for fun and profit will not get under control unless we institute a global death penalty on hackers. I'd be all for it but too many are too squeamish for that.

I agree, our grandparents lived in a time where writing bad checks had serious consequences, I don't believe online crimes should be any less if people's resources (time & money) are compromised.
