Will Great video Very interesting and Thanks for posting it. I'm hoping you video dismantling and assembly
Interesting Video...must say I never seen a shift sleeve come apart like that.! I agree the internals are well proportioned [beefy] with excellent attention to serviceability. Pressing that assy back in with the gearbox still in the vehicle may be challenging.?? Good Luck Props to your ingenuity.! Please Keep us posted with your process.
Dustin, do the instructions come with the assembly tools required? I know I had trouble finding the tools I needed for my F355 gearbox.
New syncro and shift fork are in. Just waiting on a couple of bearings. I’ve also purchased the Hill Engineering alignment jig. I wonder if that could be so far out to have over stressed the shift fork. It could be an answer to how this has happened. Welcome any other ideas worth checking! Nice video, I've seen you racing on Beyond The Pedal. Synchros are a weak link on these gearboxes and it's usually 3rd.
It tells you the tools you need. Good luck finding them. There are ways around needing a lot of them though.
Your transmission and differential look identical to my 360's. I thought 430s had an E-diff and that they might be quite a bit different.
The only time I ever took a 360 or 430 gearbox out of the car was one warranty replacement back in 99 or when the motor needs to come out. I don't know why people work so hard.
I have seen a lot of Porsche sliders break but never a slider for conventional syncros. Reinstalling is easy.
I did have to take 360 and 430 gearboxes out to do clutch jobs. I don't think the gearboxes stay in for that ...
Why not? I never pull them except when the motor is coming out. Why take the car apart? When we were doing ring gear recalls in 99 I did 2 a day and when I was done no one knew they were ever apart.
Thanks for posting this. I suspect I might have to do this sometime in the future, albeit on street car. @imahorse ill be interested in that pdf. I’ll pm you for it.
Next one is up. Pretty long winded and boring really but a lot to go through to hopefully help others! Different GoPro, still rubbish audio
For those interested, the gearbox is back together and fully working again. it was easy slipping the gearset back into the casing still in situ on the car. Video to follow!
Ring Gear recalls? Bad metallurgical or fasteners? I have difficult imagine why else Ring Gear fail...please share Thank you
They didn't put enough bolts on so they would peel like a banana [emoji529] under some circumstances which could happen in the real world. The upgraded version has more bolts so didn't fail after the revisions. It only impacted 1999 MY 360s AFAIK. Vast Majority have been replaced by now, if not all.
