I've never heard of the director before, so not sure what to expect. While Brad Pitt is good in the Oceans movies... I cant think of any other ones that I like. He's always been a "pretty face" vs. an actor to me.... I like Inglorious Bastards, but mostly for Christoph Waltz and Daniel Bruhl. Pitt's performance was.... umm not good.

Making a film about racing is hard, not many cases of success, i think most of us agree tha Le Mnas and Grand Prix are the exceptions.......
Ps: what do you guys think about Michel vaillant?

The comic books or the movie? The movie was quite average. The comic books are not masterpieces, but for us car nuts have some "historical interest", as often they depict real cars and drivers from different eras.

From what we´ve seen so far, he´s not a genius but he´s a competent craftsman. His biggest hit was that "Top Gun" sequel they made some years ago, so if you´ve seen it you have an idea of what to expect. I think it´ll be entertaining but knowing who is involved in it, I don´t expect much realism. The fact that they´re using real cars instead of doing everything with CGI gives me some hope of having some good action sequences.

Although our biggest hope in the movie department is Michael Mann´s Ferrari biopic. It can be great or catasthropic, who knows.

I grew up reading all Michel Vaillant cartoon books and it's author Jean Graton drew me a profile of MV on a magazine in the 80's at Retromobile, saying don't tell your friends I did this for you.

That being said I bought the film DVD and watched it just once at least ten years ago or whenever it came out and haven't felt like watching it since...meh.

I grew up reading the Vaillant comics. In fact as an adult on my last trip to Paris I bought a bunch of the reprints, although the magic is lost when you read them as an adult.

That said, I actually loved the Vaillant movie. Really great footage (including the CGI). Few people in the US even know about it.

I'm happy for the new F1 movie. Will it be good? Who knows. They got the look right at Silverstone from what we saw, but hearing that a F1 car explodes makes me cringe a bit. I suppose the Grosjean accident came closest to that but wasn't really an explosion.

Anyhow a popular F1 movie can only be good for the sport in the US and aid to the popularity. And that's a win in my book.

I can hardly wait for an “inclusive “ F1 movie to expand the “fanbase” . I don’t know how motor racing got along without these people for so many years.

I liked the early Michel Vaillant comics, but after a while I lost interest.
I has a look at recent ones and they are completely different.
It's the same for any series that last too long, IMO.

Well, there won't be any more gossip from the set for a while as they have all downed tools as a result of the SAG strike.

I saw Top Gun II... a lot of people said it was amazing... I thought is was as boring and stupid as the first one.... who is the Enemy? for starters.... and how can a retired AF pilot afford a P51?

A friend of mine, ex-Luftwaffe pilot owns a jet of some description (Sabre I think, not sure) that he takes to air shows in Europe.
He spent years restoring it first before it could fly.

Couldn't disagree more. I lost count how many times I watched the first one. To me the best movie ever made.

Top Gun 2 was still very, very good. At least in my book.

    F-86 Sabre.....did some time in Vietnam(the jet)

Luftwaffe pilot? What plane? BF109? Heinkel 111? Or a more "modern" jet like F104? Or F4?

My friend flew in the Luftwaffe during the 80s probably, maybe later.
I don't know exactly what plane he has, nor its provenance.
Maybe an ex-USAF aircraft; there were many in Euripe.

Nice.... I have limited knowledge of running an Ex warbird, but do have a friend who owns Fantasy of Flight outside Orlando Fla. who has a huge collection of planes... and he told me its about $1,100 an hour to fly a Mustang... as we were taxiing to his runway in the P51... for your Luftwaffe pilot... that's a lot of Wurst you have to make to fly a jet!

See that's the good thing about variety... if we all liked the same thing it would be boring. I have a hard time suspending disbelief... my wife is great at it... I'm too technical minded... in my mind today you would almost never see an adversary flying ... nor would you dog fight... you would be shot down by a missile using long-range radar, or ground based anti aircraft... but anyhow that is me.

FWIW - my favorite flying war movie is The Blue Max.... George Peppard, set during WW1... filmed in Ireland. the flying is pretty realistic, and even the planes look the part.

I don't know enough about aircraft to have an opinion. I thought kerosene was cheaper than AVGAS..
Anyway, I suppose my friend gets paid by the airshows organisers to fly his jet at their meetings.
I went to an airshow near Rheims, (East in France), and there were several "warbird jets" from Germany flown by their owners.
I suppose it's an expensive hobby, like racing F1 cars in Historic Racing, or keeping a collection of exotic cars.

I think vintage aircraft is even more expensive than racing a vintage F1 car.... and a lot more dangerous!

In Germany they have less WWII warbirds left than fighter jets decommissioned by the USAF.
I heard that jet engines require less maintenance than radial or V12, and the part easier to find.
It amazes me that ex-military aircraft can be flown by civilians.
