As the title says, I just installed a new set of Morimoto tail lights and the rear hatch warning light and beeping noise started happening. Anyone else install these lights and had this happen?

I can't see an obvious connection.

Maybe it's coincidence. Maybe your rear lid isn't latching properly or the microswitch has broken. See pic below:

Thanks to @tomw for the photo.

If you can find a plug or earth for the lid microswitch, disconnect either of those and it should simulate a lid closed (if I remember correctly).

Did you disturb any earths (grounds) during the installation?

Do you have a USA car?

Do your brake lights actually work? If you've blown a brake light fuse, the car won't like that.

Did it happen as soon as you installed them? I have these lights and have driven a few times and no issues so far. I think the pressure switch is on the hood, so when you close it, it presses it together on a small silver square next to the latch.

You may be thinking of the high stop light contact.

Yes, it happened immediately after installation. Upon searching the interwebs, I found an article where a 430 owner changed his bulbs to LED bulbs and got the exact same issues that I am having. He removed the LED bulbs and went back to stock and the issue went away.

Part Number 14 is the below. I think its names different things. I think that what shows the system the engine bonnet is closed . I could be wrong. I cant see the lights giving it issues, but its possible. Maybe swap back and see if your problem goes away.

I would check the wiring you just plugged in. Do all the lights work? Does your 3rd brake light work? Is there "crud" on the contact points.

The switch/contact is shown as XA47 in the wiring diagrams. It only provides power to the high stop light on the lid.

It's not a switch in the true sense. It's just a contact.

Will the contact indicate that your lid is open. Yes, if you push the brake pedal and someone behind you sees that your high stop light is not working.

I would plug the OE taillights back on to see if the error goes away, to confirm that the LED taillights is the cause.

I did and the warning light/chime went away. It is definitely the LED lights causing it.

Just dawned on me, I have the Scud ing Swiss F1 bypass. How many of you are running this as well and not having any issues?

Can you isolate the problem to a particular side? With the L/R side or light cluster/s disconnected, do you still get the warning?

This is good to know that there is no conflict with the e-diff bypass. I am away on vacation for 3 weeks, I will resume troubleshooting when I return.

I have contacted both Morimoto and The Lighting Guru (dealer I bought from) and they are researching the issue I am having. It is definitely the Morimoto system that is causing the error since reverting back to stock tail lights eliminates the error. Upon further research, I came across this older post which describes the exact same issue I am having. It is likely that one or both of the resistors supplied to me are defective.

At first I thought it was the lid warning light, but that is the exact warning light I am getting with these LED lights.

It’s probably detecting a P1760 (brake switch failure) if you scan codes on the TCU. I know of another 430 with the morimoto lights with this problem - was very intermittent though.

I did some more testing this morning and installing the Morimoto on the left side (driver) with OEM taillights does not trigger this warning. It is only until after the right side is installed that the warning immediately comes up. I have been in constant communication with The Lighting Guru (dealer) and they are relaying the issue with Morimoto, but Morimoto has not provided a warranty solution and it has been almost one month.

I'm going to close out this thread with a resolution to my issue. I remembered installing a first generation ScudIng Swiss led third brake light and that turned out to be the conflict. For some reason the car doesn't like the amp draw when the Morimoto tail lights are installed with the aftermarket led third brake light. I reinstalled the OEM third brake light and the error has disappeared. It is unfortunate that the third brake light is now much dimmer than the taillights. I hope this thread helps other members and make sure to consult with Stef or whomever you purchase an upgraded third brake light. So as it stand, the first generation ScudIng Swiss third brake light WILL NOT work with the Morimoto tail lights. Thank you all.

Below is what I received from Stef:

Thank you very much for your message.
The problem is definitely not with our LED 3rd brake light but with the Morimoto lights that are missing an important element (very cheap Chinese R&D).
The light you're having is an F1 error light (not a rear hatch open warning...).

To correct what is missing in the Morimoto lights, you need to install this solution:

NO-F1 FAILURE BRAKE LIGHT CONNECTION CABLE

Our LED rear lights solutions integrate the above solution to avoid having the F1 error light !

    I hope this is helpful,

    Stef
