Now that I have designed and manufacture electrical connectors for the factory speaker harnesses, I can present a truly 100% plug and play door speaker upgrade solution. These connectors do not exist in the known galaxy. Also included are Focal "Flax Series" (or the higher end K2 Series) 6 1/2" midrange drivers, 3D printed midrange mounting fixtures, Focal Flax or K2 3" midrange drivers, laser cut brackets for the smaller midrange speakers (also in the JBL doors), and all mounting hardware. This system is guaranteed to provide a significant improvement in the sound quality or your money back. In fact, I have been selling just the 6 1/2" midrange kit for the JBL 458's for years and customers rave about the improvement. The addition of the 3" smaller midranges will greatly improve the sound stage, and the new electrical connectors will eliminate the need to cut any wires. A completely bolt in and plug in system. Easily reverts back to bone stock.

And what’s the difference for the K2’s? Also, does the system need more power for the speakers? (Sounds amazing, nice work!)

I'm thinking that the base system will be somewhere in the $1500 range, and the K2's will be somewhere in the $2500 range. The cheapest Focal kit that includes the 3 inch speakers are a thousand dollars minimum. The same kit in the K2's are $2300 minimum. And that's just for the speakers (not the 3D printed midrange adapters, the laser cut small adapters, the 3D printed connectors, mounting hardware, etc.).
Buying all these pieces separately would be big money. The kits with the 3 inch speakers are expensive, but buying the 3 inch speakers separately is really expensive.
The one thing that is really high quality with the JBL system is the amplifier. It has more than enough power for these new speakers. You just can't ask it to drive a subwoofer. The power is spread out over too many channels.

Are the 3" speakers also installed in the doors along side the 6.5" speakers.

Yes. They are also in the dash, behind the occupants, and in other Ferrari models. I originally designed the mounting bracket for speaker replacements for the rear panels in the California and Cali T. Similarly, my 3D printed midrange mounting fixtures fit basically all of the late model Ferraris (even the SF90).

Can a dummy like me take off the door cards and tweeter enclosures with a trim kit and install this?

A dummy like you? No. But a standard dummy could. [emoji6]

I'm the biggest dummy of them all, and if I can do it, you can do it.

This is me taking a 458 Spider door panel off:

Note that this video is old. I no longer sell the stainless midrange adapter rings. I sell the 3D printed adapter fixtures, which have three advantages:
    1. It holds the speaker close to the speaker grill (allowing for excursion) for maximum efficiency.
    2. It has a conical shape which gives you more mid bass and a generally warmer sound. There are aftermarket rubber tubes that do the same thing, but this concept is engineered into my adapters.
    3. The back of my adapters have an umbrella of sorts. This keeps moisture from reaching the back of the speaker after a car wash or rain.

Do you recommend replacing the planar speakers behind the seats with anything else?

    No.
You'll never see an IASCA (International Auto Sound Challenge Association) competitor with midranges or tweeters behind the occupants. It screws up the sound stage. Besides, electrostatic speakers are extremely inefficient. I would unplug that entire array if I were fortunate enough to own one of these cars. Ford/Mercury tried the "Quadraphonic Sound" concept in the early 1970's (my parents had a Lincoln Continental with that system). It lasted about 6 years.
