The engine bay of my Testarossa is fairly dirty. I have never detailed an engine before. What is the way to safely do it?

I have watched a few YouTube videos related to engine bay detailing. People typically soak down the entire bay with soap, scrub, and then rinse with a water hose. I am a bit nervous about spraying my engine bay with a garden hose, should I be?

Be gentle. Keep in mind the brittleness of the plastic connectors!!! Ask me how I know:eek::(

Can you post pictures of the engine? You can get things wet, but I'd watch out about how much water you use. Maybe use a spray bottle of degreaser and clean localized areas.

Sure. This car is almost my daily driver and the engine bay has not been cleaned since I bought it nearly 2 years ago.

Looks like it's just a lot of dust. So use rags you could throw away, some soapy water and lightly wipe everything down. Watch out for electrical connectors and water that pools ontop of the engine. Overall shouldn't be hard to clean. Mine has some grease on top of the engine and I'll use simple green for that
