Need to replace this hose wondering if it’s anything special? How much Vacuum does this see? Anyone know the ID/OD? Thanks Image Unavailable, Please Login
The brown hose? Thats not a vacuum hoes, it supplies the clutch hydraulic system with fluid from the brake reservoir. Yes, its special hose. #119361 is indeed a vacuum hose but it is not in this picture. The brown hose is item 31 #125284 on table 29 of the 1990 TR parts book. I'd take it to someone to get it done.
Thanks Brian! I was in there doing Steve’s relay upgrade and inadvertently put my hand on the hose, the hose felt wet and left some residue on my hand.
It (the now-brownish hose in your photo exiting the side of the brake fluid reservoir) is a zero-pressure, zero-vacuum hose, as Brian indicated, but it (i.e., its inner liner layer) needs to be made of a material that is compatible with brake fluid (which is pretty nasty stuff).
Jeff, the hose ID is 8mm to fit the plastic barbs. I had the same issue and used Cohline brake fluid capable hose. The core is polyamid hard plastic material with a rubber outer cover. Not a hard job BUT care is needed with the plastic barbs and this type of hose cannot be kinked. A hairdryer to soften the hose ends makes it a little easier to slide onto the barbs. The original hose looks typical of the type used on European cars, The cloth covering. I don't know if it all the same? Probably different specs for specific use.
The original hose is made from EPDM rubber. That is what you should be looking for to replace it. Fuel/oil hoses are made from buna-n rubber, which is not compatible with brake fluid, and will swell and leak if used with brake fluid. There are many suppliers that carry the original cloth braided EPDM hose, 8mm is very hard to find. 7mm is easy to find and fits over the original fittings just fine. The original hose was dark grey/black in color, but turns tan/brown over time.
Thank you Brian! I see continental makes a black cloth braided 7mm ID hose for this application and it is readily available even up here in Canada
Thats a switch. The German government used to require low pressure brake fluid hose be blue as an identification method. Just be sure it is for brake fluid.
The Belmetric site does have black 7mm cloth braided hose for brake fluid from Cohline. I did not want to risk the tight fit on the potentially brittle white plastic barb fitting. The original cloth braid hose that Ferrari chose for the Testarossa failed (felt wet and changed color) which I did not prefer to repeat. The Cohline M8x14 rubber covered polyamid hose seems more capable for preventing such seepage. The Belmetric spec sheet for same and it's use for brake fluid follows. Yes I did run across the blue hose on a few VW sites and now I understand why the hose was blue! I’ve just ordered a meter of this from a supplier up here. 35006857512 Genuine BMW Audi, BMW, Mercedes, VW Image Unavailable, Please Login

this would be totally new for me. I remember mercedes and BMW with yellow hoses. and in the written law I never read some about blue. so may be only the manufacturers made an agreement to produce those blue ones?
Its just what I had heard. For a long time it was all that was offered. American cars never used it so our sources used to all be European. Now with race cars and custom cars using it a lot is available from many sources.
I asked today a friend of mine checking cars every 2 years for safety and he also not ever has known about this blue hoses. but he promised me to check and will let me know this or next week. I will write then again here, because I also like to know
Turns out mine is a bit wet too. Gonna try this one 7.5mm and cloth braided https://autoricambi.us/brake-fluid-hose-1977-85/ Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I used this on my 330 no leaks no weeping https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/264341958265?hash=item3d8c022e79:g:npoAAOSwxg5XxEbt
