Is that just Speciale or Speciale Aperta?

    That’s Speciale

The disparity is significantly greater for SA compared to Pista Spider. The asking prices of SA are usually 200k more than Pista Spiders.

But in Europe, we find many Pista's for sale ! One UK shop has (or recently had0 THREE for sale (Maranello Motors UK).

Why are they dumped here ?

It sounds like both US and UK/Euro markets believe the Speciale is the more valuable car.

When I bought my Pista, I knew that it would likely never eclipse the appreciation of the Speciale.

However, the characteristics of the Pista that I valued outweighed its lower appreciation potential.

I think they simply made more Pista's than Speciale's hence the values. If production numbers were the same I think the values would reflect that.

  7. This is exactly why the Pista is the better car to buy if you plan on driving it.

And if you don't plan on driving a car you buy, then why buy it?

Yes and that is because of the low numbers of the SA. However it wholly depends on the spec and mileage. Ferraris are great works of art however no point in having one to sit in the garage.

  9. It's funny, and I don't mean to bash on the Speciale.

But let's assume for a moment that everyone who wants to buy a Speciale actually wants to drive it because they think it is significantly a better driving experience than the 458.

And now let's also assume that the in this alternate universe of ours, the 488/F8/Pista were also NA V8.

Would those same people who were ostensibly buying the Speciale to drive (because it's supposedly a great driver's car) still feel the same way?

    I seriously wonder.

Aha! Some legit buyer and owner in the market verified my view! Pista is great car no doubt (it basically replaced all 488GTB sales after launch) and only car from from Ferarri that can go up to track day with other marque, but, Speciale is special! My dream is actually F12 TDF, beyond reach.

exactly. I never see the speciale owners on club drives because they are too afraid of putting miles on their car. I mean I get it, but it is still ridiculous. The ownership experience is multi faceted ..

That seems to be far less of an issue in Europe. Most of the cars for sale in Europe have 20,000+ kilometers. In the US, its rare to find something with 10,000 miles or more. Kinda weird, but very clear.

They get driven that much here because there is no place to park them.

That's an untrue generalization. One of mine has 12k kms and gets driven regularly, rain or shine.

If one really loves a car, he'll never sell. If he never sells, why would he care about miles affecting value.

12,000 kms on a 8 plus year old car 1,500 kms / year. It aint much at all.

"One of mine "can I gather by that you have more than one and let me guess that one has even less KM's ?

Having said that I do agree with your last sentence,

" If one really loves a car, he'll never sell. If he never sells, why would he care about miles affecting value "

Fact is you would be pressed to ever see a Speciale in the wild , actually NEVER

Mine at 13K+ miles and climbing. Drive it on most weeks. My 911 GT3 manual now at 25K+ miles.
Both are a hoot to drive.
There is no question that the Speciale drives better than the 458 (more power, less weight, lowered, better brakes, higher engine tune, better tranny, SSC2), and to my eye looks much better than the 458. The 488 and F8 are more GT-like and so for that “Ferrari” wild ride the Speciale is far superior in that regard. I have zero interest in the Pista; I think the front S-duct looks stupid, and it sounds awful.

My "daily" sees < 3k miles/yr. So for me, 1500 kms/yr is a good amount.
Max 50-60 Speciales in Australia, that's a reason why you never see them - in the wild.
I drove Speciale 450 kms yesterday - in the wild.
Hit 280 kms/hr on the autobahn, it was a blast!

I have a friend in TX who bought his Speciale w/2,500 miles and it now has 26,000 miles.
If you lived anywhere near Dallas, you may have seen him - in the wild.

Anyone who says a Speciale drives like an Italia hasn't driven it hard/fast enough.
The harder you drive it, the more it comes alive.

50-60 Speciales in all of Australia. Of those, how many are members of the club? And for those who are members of the club, how many are too busy doing other things to come on the club drive?

Maybe you see more Pistas than Speciales on the club drives. This is because were more Pistas built than Speciales.

Is there any good tips or references to help determine used pricing on the 488?

There’s a healthy market for the 488, but prices can swing wildly from model year to model year or with one car having a few options that another car doesn’t or even slight differences in mileage.

I’m just trying to determine what’s the biggest factor outside of it having the name “Ferrari” on it.

    Thanks!

Good question... I went through this back in Nov 2019 when I bought my 488GTB. I really wanted as new as possible plus I wanted a 2019 if possible because a few videos pointed to a different ECU factory tune and the car was doing a lot better in various drag races. I don't drag race but I wanted the best I could get if possible.

I have been toying around with possibly selling my 488GTB and I monitor asking prices on Autotrader, Cargurus etc. I wish I could see actual selling prices though. There are no where near as many 488 for sale as F8 for some odd reason.

As a rule of thumb my thoughts are cars with good color combo, typical options 1-2 owners, service records no accidents... actual selling prices would be as listed below with asking prices $5-10k higher. Selling to private party not selling to a dealer for resell as those prices would be lower. Multiple 3-4-5 plus owners drives pricing down.

    2019 488GTB under 5k mile $280-$285k
    2019 488GTB under 10k miles $270-$275k

    2018 488GTB under 5k miles $270-$275k
    2018 488GTB under 10k miles $260-$270k

    2017 488GTB under 5k miles $260-$265k
    2017 488GTB under 10k miles $250-$260k

    2016 488GTB under 5k miles $230-$235k
    2016 488GTB under 10k miles $220-230k

    Anyones thoughts on this?

There are 202 488 GTB/Spider and 92 GTB on autotrader..... there are 200 F8/Spider and 100 F8 Tributo on Autotrader.... neither more than the other.
