I know about Grosjean. I don't know about Russell regarding said matter nor have I read it.

Again, you wanna link about Grosjean not getting the extra modes from Mercedes?

Yeah sure. Still if Russell had the same modes, He didn't win races, so it shows its more than the engine anyway.

Well, I'll leave the answer to your last question open...but I have an idea about it. I'll just remind you of an anecdote or two:
    - in 1970, Jochen Rindt, who was certainly not known for his modesty and could be quite arrogant sometimes, was complimented after one of his wins with the Lotus 72, a car that was the most advanced and fastest by a wide margin, and he answered (I quote): "even a monkey would have won that race at the wheel of this car".
    - in 2012 or 2013, Fernando Alonso, whose birthday it was, was asked in the paddock what present he would like: he showed Vettel's Red Bull and said: "this!"
(Luca Di Montezemolo was not amused)
During a period of dominance, a lot of credit must always go to the car; all great drivers know it. And a great driver struggling with a slower car always envy the one who has the best of the lot, that's normal.
Trying to understand why they say this or that is splitting hairs in four. I don't comment what Lewis said about the R.B, but the truth is he had the best car of the lot for 6 or 7 seasons in a row, so he could have waited a few more years for complaining...besides, to be bitter so soon is actually acknowledging that in his days of dominance, it was indeed his car that made the job!

I'll give credit to that. Still with Williams using the same modes, were not producing wins. And still the fact remains there is more to performance than the engine.

The engine is not the only factor is true for all years of F1.

A Porsche GT3 RS does a faster lap time than a Mustang GT500.

Chassis, aero, drivers, operations. All play a factor.

The Red Bull aero of the 2014 was pretty damn good, but it had by far the worst engine. Top operations, great drivers.
Merc had a great engine, great chassis, great aero, great drivers, great operations.
Ferrari had an engine a bit better than Renault, chassis was a dog, aero questionable. Great drivers. Ferrari operations.
Williams very slippery car, lacked peak downforce. Pretty good chassis, great engine. Sub par drivers. Operations decent.
Mclaren rubbish aero, **** chassis, good drivers, great engine. Great operations.
Force India great engine, good chassis, good aero, good drivers, great operations.
Lotus **** aero, **** engine, sub par drivers, **** operations

If the Red Bull had an identical engine to the Merc's we would've had a season on our hands at least. Would Merc have won? Pretty sure of it still, yes. But it didn't. There's only so much you can do with such a massive power deficit.

Do you see that there's "only so much other teams can do" now competing againt RB chassis? What do you have to say about the chassis deficit they have?

No limitation on chassis + aero upgrade for starters.

You can overcome a bad chassis/aero with good power but you can't overcome no power with good aero and good chassis.

    That's the difference.
