My car came with a few pretty obvious scratches and dings on the steering wheel. Probably someone slipping when trying to unscrew it...

I couldn't find a thread on this - how would you guys go about refinishing that scratched up metal?

I would prefer to keep the original wheel rather than buying a new Momo wheel, if possible.

Or do you know of someone who could recondition it if I send it over?

    Thanks!

If it's scratched, probably your only option would be to sand it out. I would probably thoroughly tape off the leather and try to sand the entire face evenly, or at least go out several inches from the scratches. Then wet sand the whole thing back out with higher and higher grits of sand paper to the desired finish. If the scratches are really deep, it might be shelf ornament and maybe you're better off going after a new one.

Thanks. The metal is brushed horizontally with such perfect linear brushing pattern that I can’t imagine being able to achieve that brushed finish myself with sandpaper.

I’m wondering if there would be some shop (maybe interior specialist) that would have the right tools to get this done.

I know. My bad. I'm away from the car for a couple of weeks and should have taken a pic before asking for advice.

I'll revive the thread when I'm back at the car and can take a pic.

A new wheel is really not that expensive but I'd like to keep the original one if I can

Is it repairable, YES however the bad news is that the ONLY way to do it perfectly and invisibly is to totally disassemble the steering wheel, de-anodize the spokes, sand and re-brush them then re-anodize the spokes and re-upholster the steering wheel. I've done this and it is extremely expensive and time consuming to do perfectly. Unfortunately damage that takes seconds to do can cause thousands to fix.
