Is there a standard filter available for the 355 or is it proprietary Ferrari?

Also, what is the recommended oil?

    THANKS, Bob Z.

Did you try looking in the 355 section ? At a guess there's maybe 25 years of answers

I can’t say I’ve heard of anyone using anything other than the Purflux OEM filters and almost everyone goes with the Shell oil recommended in the Owners Manual. How many miles/kms do you have on the clock?

Gearbox oil… that’s another story. Even though the oil recommended in the Owners Manual appears to be the best, it’s hard to find and only seems to be available in large quantities.

Do you know the correct procedure for checking engine oil levels?
Check the 355 forum for oil filter tools. As there is a torque spec for the filter, you’ll need an oil filter tool with a square drive.

Someone in the 355 forum should be able to direct you to a pdf tutorial for oil changes.

Strange. I thought Ferrari would have amended their specs if it did.

    What's Barry @308 GTB using?

    Hi Ian,

    I'm using Mobil 1 15W50 Synthetic in my 1995 F355 Challenge. But remember, it's a race car.

The 550 gets Castrol 5W40 Synthetic.

Thanks for the replies, Gents - it really helps.
I also checked the site from post #4 and found more good information.
One thing I was looking for and maybe I overlooked but I was wondering if there are any aftermarket filters like Baldwin, Wix ,Bosche, etc that would suit the needs of the 355.

Bob- Just stick with the OEM filters. Lots of threads on replacements and the summary is usually stick with OEM.

The 355 filter is made by Purflux. Just use it. Simple. I use liqui molley 5w40 engine oil. A bit pricey..but it's good stuff. Drive the damn thing. There is zero reason to have the car if you are going to sweat every detail.

Yes. Purflux filters go into both my F355 Challenge and 550.

I have a short fuse for people who drive expensive cars and want to buy cheap parts. It does not compute.

The 197654 355 Oil Filter is a very high-quality oil filter that has a lot of filter material inside a very small can and has the features best for an inverted mounting arrangement. AFAIK, no one has posted an equivalent alternative, and I don't think that they are stupidly expensive (at least they weren't in 2012). If you want to know more about it, see this thread:
