My driveway is dumb. I've been dealing with this for over 10 years and the cars I've owned. I've had every ghetto ramp you can think of, but it was time to do this right. I contracted a concrete company to fix my driveway and got them to include a guarantee in the contract that my car won't scrape, but I'm having serious doubts now.

Hopefully you guys can give me some ideas and measurements to relay to these guys.

Right now, they are starting the forms but based off a template I made, it's still going to hit my front lip since there is a dip right outside the garage door where the channel drain will be. I brought this up to the contract and he said that he's still going to raise the drain a bit and float it. I'm just not feeling very confident at all.

Center of my front tire to front lip is 45". Bottom of front lip to the ground is 2.75". So, it looks like my slope needs to be under 6.1"?

Looks like there’s lots of room, does it have to take a straight path? Could make yourself a chicane.

I was told that it was possible to make this work with a straight shot down the driveway, so that's what sold me on the idea.

If anyone can give me ideas before the finish the forming and pour, that would be great. Things are on hold right now as its too hot to pour concrete.

Looks like your guy is on the right track, just about moving dirt and you have the length to have low approach and departure angles

Probably too late now, but I would have fabricated a ramp similar to above out of bridge steel grating or a steel diamond plating sheet with legs/braces etc. on it for support like a table so to speak. That way you maintain your drainage channel underneath and it becomes a non issue. Any steel fabricator or welding shop could do this. The grating comes pre-welded and the shop could cut and fabricate to your measurements. Spray it with truck bed compound for rust prevention.

I did this on an aircraft hangar that had a gully in front of the door and this allowed the plane to roll over into hangar without getting caught in the gully. Worked great. No noise and no slipping in snow/ice.

I thought about that way back when, but was told it was be very noisy and extremely slippery in wet/snowy conditions.

But yeah, too late for that now.

Sounds like you need to move out that dump of a house and get you a real place worthy of your cars! @SoCal to az can advise.

Is it possible to lower the ground / remove material so the angle gets better? And make some kind of wall on the sides? it often does not need that much

You actually just need to raise car (front wheels) a small amount at the point the front spoiler makes contact with the ground (or raise the rear wheels a small amount at the point the rear diffuser makes contact). So the point you need to raise the car may actually not be at the lowest point of the driveway. Check out the pics of solutions on this website. You could implement one of them after the new driveway has been completed.https://www.jlcproducts.com.au/garage-approach/

We had a similar issue and made it more of a gradual curve versus abrupt changes at the seams. It can be done but requires the contractor to be very thoughtful in his planning.

Having said that, I would be concerned with the drainage. It looks like there are a fair amount of trees in your area and fallen leaves can quickly clog a drain and then you may have a flooded garage. One potential solution is to use pavers instead of poured concrete and have them installed in a more gradual curve since pavers would allow water to go into the soil versus run down the concrete. The alternative is asphalt (and more affordable) since it's a bit easier to do a curved area with than concrete.

Does anyone know if Contractors are responsible to broken wires under the ground? They've had to do a lot of digging obviously. They ripped up the wiring for my landscaping lights and street light. They fixed this, but make sure to tell me that they didn't have to.

Yesterday, they ripped up my ATT that was buried. ATT coming out today to fix it, but I'm being charged. I mentioned this to the contractor and he didn't volunteer to pay for it or act like he was responsible.

As far as I know, they are not responsible… I remember when I had my house, I had a sewer guy have to dig up and area to replace some piping and they cut my cable wires and I had to pay for it

First you are 100% responsible to ATT as it was your contractor that damaged the wires. Depending on what type of wire they damaged it can be very expensive. I have defended many similar cases and if it is a fiber optic bundle it could be 50k+.

in regards to the contractor being responsible to you, you need to look at your contract. More than likely there will be an indemnity provision in there that makes them responsible. If it is silent to that they would ultimately be responsible. I assume the have GL insurance and they need to put their carrier on notice right away. ATT will make their repairs and seek subbrogation.
