I got my car registered to display on the MyFerrari app and it shows that it came with red calipers. My calipers are currently black. Is the app usually accurate or is there a better way to determine exactly what the car came with originally? I can’t decide if red calipers on a Giallo Modena car would look overly McDonaldsy or not, so I don’t know if I’d change out the black even if they aren’t original.

I’m just learning of this app now. I’ve requested access.

Of the whole car? Sure. Last pic to show the brake calipers, specifically.

Those calipers look original. As in originally black. Never been painted. If they were red, previous owner swapped them out.

Yeah, I figured the app is wrong, or they’d been swapped out for some reason. I can’t think of any reason they would have been swapped out.

Some feel the red is a bit too much against some colors. It’s possible they were swapped out. A set of red calipers in good condition are worth $$. I looked hard for a few months about 6 months ago and it’s difficult to find a full set.

Red calipers were only options on 98-99 MY.

Interesting. Mine is a 98 and the configuration in the app does correctly show the 6 disc cd changer and challenge grill.

it looks like the brake line is sprayed red, too. Is that how the factory did it?

These are definitely painted. Font on Ferrari logo is not exactly OE spec. Hard to tell but it looks like the logo could be a sticker as well as it looks to be popping out slightly. A clearer and closer pic would be needed. Or simply your fingers over them.

Having looked at hundreds of these by now, certain details indicate to me if a caliper is painted or not. OE Ferrari logo on the calipers have fatter fonts. Particularly the “e” and the “r”s. Only during that 90’s period was the Ferrari font on the calipers like that and as far as I can tell, no one has successfully made an exact replica of it to use as a sticker after caliper repaint.

Drilled rotors are also a 98-99 MY option. Of course you can buy them from Ferrari still, but they are pricey. Roughly $400-450 each. They are Brembo rotors. I believe they do say Brembo on them along the edges. I’ll have to double-check on that. There are less expensive after-market rotors that look similar. Non-Brembos. They won’t have gray primer around the hub and other areas as those areas will eventually rust and show if not primered.

Btw. One of my 95 355’s came with painted red calipers. I removed and sold them and replaced with a very good set of black ones, which believe it or not, is also very difficult to find these days. I was initially looking for a red set, but best I could find is 3 out 4 each from different places. My standards were 8 out of 10 condition min. I could not find a set. Basically gave up. I don’t give up easily when hunting for 355 parts :).

I finally had a moment to check the calipers out, and @ShineKen is 100% correct. They are black decals, buried under clearcoat. The paint job on them is superb - but alas; not original.

This thread has me finally attempting to register our car into myferrari.com - I want to see the build sheet!

How do you get the build data on your car after you've registered on the Ferrari website?

Once my car was in “my garage” on the app, I just click on the car and then “configuration” and it shows me what it thinks the car came with. Whether it’s correct or not is another matter.

I'm currently going back and forth with Ferrari, trying to prove I own the car... Apparently "[Ferrari] are sorry to inform you that the information you entered does not match the information on our database"; it must be that one of the previous 7 owners of my car have already registered it.

I'm hoping that a picture of the registration next to the matching license plate attached to the bright red car they made is enough... ;)

Funny how Ferrari seems to think nobody ever resells their cars...

I had to send copy of the title as proof. Registration and license plate will not do it.
