So, I finally put another donkey in the barn.... After much searching, I finally pulled the trigger on a clean, very well optioned 2016 FF. I've put on approximately 1000 miles so far. What a car! That V12 is mind blowing! Great as a fun daily driver! I've been able to "squeeze" in 3 adults plus a child seat for my 2 yr old. I'm 6'1" (mostly legs), so there's not a ton of room behind my seat, admittedly, but we made it work. Even had my daughter watching Avatar on the rear seat entertainment system. The car gets attention from those that know what it is, but otherwise flies under the radar, which is kinda what I was looking for. As an example, on my first cruise up the coast along with my buddy in his 328, people would stop and comment on the red 328, but not even mention the black FF parked next to it. Semi-stealth! So far, I've done an oil/filter change, put on 4 brand new Michelin PS4s, got an alignment, and unplugged the exhaust valves. It was too quiet in stock form. To get any sound out of it, you're either scaring your passengers, or doing very illegal speeds if you get a couple of shifts in there. Now you can enjoy the sound at more reasonable speeds. Next plans include tinting the driver/passenger windows to match the rear windows and have a more uniform look, paint correction, redo the PPF on the front (maybe add full PPF??), and ceramic coating for protection/ease of cleaning. Yep....CarPlay was one of the features I was looking for. As a car that can be daily driven, it's nice just to connect and go.
Looks like the car has all the specs this is desirable, congratulations! From experience I can recommend a complete ppf + ceramic coating. You won't regret it!
Finally got my issues sorted out with this car, PTU rebuilt by the Hollywood Mechanic out in Thousand Oaks, CA... flew out there and hit some of the Malibu canyon roads on the way home. Epic. 700 miles done in a day and no more issues... Here's a couple pics of my ride on the trip, in reverse order for some reason... .. 1 year I think? I don't remember, give him a call for details. Awesome guy, super smart and did the work fast.
Congrats on the new car and I wish you good luck with it. If you need any recs on paint correction and PPF and tint let me know. I recently had my 612 and my wife's Panamera done. If you are going to daily drive it, I have Michelin Pilot Alpins on my FF. The only problem is lately we haven't had much snow these winters to really try them out. Two years ago I took it took Quebec City for Christmas and they had less snow than us!
Thanks! If I can pick up an extra set of wheels before winter sets in, I might put some snow tires on just for fun. Happy to take some local recommendations on ppf and ceramic. I’ve used Q Car Care on my X5M and have been happy with their work so far. Are you planning on attending the Tuscan car show again this year? Maybe I’ll see you there. I’m planning to go….not sure yet if I’ll bring the FF or the Challenge.
congrats on getting your car sorted! Does the Hollywood Mechanic actually improve the reliability of the PTU during the rebuild like the folks in UK?
Yes he changes the snap rings and seal springs to something far more reliable, as well as changing all the seals, he also rerouted one of the hoses to keep it out of the way from being hit on speedbumps etc. he has a video on his ptu repair kit it if you search it on youtube. It made sense to me so I went for it, so far so good.
If you have used a company you are happy with then I would just stick with them. I'm not going to the Tuscan Market this year. I signed up for the FCA Heritage Museum and Gardens event on Sept. 9th and staying over at the Belfry Inn that night.
We’ve had road bikes in the back of the FF on holiday and this time it was the dog’s turn. She’s safely restrained by a harness which is connected to the seat tie point. 10hrs drive and perfectly comfortable. She was even able to enjoy the view out the back window, watching the world go by when she wasn’t sleeping. Image Unavailable, Please Login
