You can do a lot of mold removal with $100k....
Yeah, this is how uninformed (or possibly just "gotta have it now") the BaT community is. For the difference between those two very similar cars you could fund a very detailed restoration, let alone what the original car needed (likely just a healthy detail and some TLC). Presentation definitely won the day for Seller #2.
Suddenly $180k for the other car doesn’t seem unreasonable. What will 355’s be worth 5-10 years from now?? What will a 10k mi example in Rosso Corsa/Tan be worth? Past ownership history can be masked by stellar current ownership history in 5-10 years time. I’d make it look like it just came off the assembly line in 95. J.mora could be in it for the long run and simply see that car as a discounted opportunity. $180k is reasonable IF the car proves to be mechanically sound. Who gives a rat’s ass what the second place bidders think? Others looking to add a 355 to their collection might want a prime example, no-story car right now. They are ignoring last week’s auction as they simply don’t touch anything but the absolute best. The finest 355 examples are being added to owners’ supercar collections. Get yours now before it’s too late .
And these guys know j.mora over paid, not to mention that dr08 saved this auction. (poor Dino was a big miss.) Image Unavailable, Please Login
According to the time log on my phone, nobody saved nutthin’. So did J.mora over pay or underpay at $180k? I’m confused. I thought a full dry-ice detail w/ full paint correction and interior detail was $10k. Regarding today’s Classiche’d Berlinetta, what’s going on with the custom leather lower door speakers, incorrectly positioned window switches from a RHD car and eyelets behind the seats for a race harness? Car’s history masked with a nice detail ?? Thank you for playing. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was involved in the purchase of today’s 355 (on BaT) for my client. I sold this car 2.5 years ago privately. I know the full history of the car, and purchased it from the long term second owner. Let’s just say that you’re not going to find a better 355 Berlinetta. And I say that as an owner of a 95 355B that I’ve put away.
Its safe to say, well sorted collectible grade low mileage 355's presented properly are bringing lots of money. The good sorted everyday drivers are another market and still bringing good money in that category- But neglected not well presented examples regardless of miles won't perform as well as these 2 categories. Conclusion = The 355 is a hard car to find especially in tip top condition & they are going to hold strong $$ wise as the demand surely exceeds the supply. In the end they are fun as hell to drive & enjoy
100% agreed. But Ken (mostly for the sake of argument with John) and others (whether driven by potential profit or egos) continue to conflate the two categories by assuming ALL 355s belong in the former rather than the latter.
Meh. More like people having reading comprehension issues. I was asked what I think the car is worth in it’s neglected state post failed auction and I said $175k. If it weren’t in it’s neglected state, it’s a $200k+ car, which was proven by yesterday’s results. Anyone here make the call yesterday’s 96 Berlinetta was going to hit $200k+ or is it only a realization after the fact? It’s usually people who don’t have the car who try to downplay market valuations (driven by desire to acquire a car or jealousy) Btw. Neglected 10k mi Berlinetta did $155k (minimum), which is about as good as most sorted drivers Berlinettas so far. Image Unavailable, Please Login
@johnk... What do you think about the $300k ask price for the car now?? 7k mi. Rosso Corsa/tan. Unmodified interior. Ultra rare full leather tan carbon sport seats.
Very close to it's sister with a few more miles currently for sale on CnB. https://carsandbids.com/auctions/9Wo11epV/1995-ferrari-f355-spider
RNM at $180k. Was pretty obvious that's where it was going. Can't argue about the presentation. Yellow? From Venezuela? Repaint? Euro?
Was it the color or the fact the car was only 5k mi and entirely painted with no documentation as to why?
