Boxers require more effort and money to run than 550s, for sure. Same person can have both but they’re not comparable. I’d be shocked if 550 values surpassed Boxers and stayed there. Boxers are rare, more unique and exotic. I can’t believe Boxers aren’t 750k+. Poor man’s Miura.

To be fair, the RHD market is very limited and generally below the averages we are used to in the LHD world.

Traditionally RHD was more expensive due to smaller numbers made and sold new. Brexit really messed up UK market by cutting easy LHD movement between UK and continent making LHD cheap but stuck in UK. Now RHD is similarly down until economy in UK picks up again.

Reasonable appriasal of where we are now in the UK. There are some bargains to be had here if you're a buyer now. The market is depressed.

Miura costs a lot of money to restore and previous abandoned cars will often have internal rust which must be removed. Boxers were relatively brand new when the F car market exploded in the 80's and usually do not have spot rust issues. Quite often the 512 was well taken care of from day one. Non-car enthusiasts cannot tell the difference between a 308 and a Boxer. Miura production #'s are a lot less. Some consider the Miura (incredible looks) to be the first supercar. The first supercar claim is debatable as some feel this belongs to a Dusenberg and others believe it is the 300SL Gullwing. In my opinion the Boxers are ensconced between classic and modern F cars and fit neither group. A major service can run into a lot of money on the Boxer. Parts are difficult to find. Are typical mechanics who service exotics qualified to turn wrenches on the 512 BB? My X had to be sent to another shop to finish up incompetent work from an experienced private shop. Boxers are the last hand-built F car and are an incredible value.

great review! One point that he makes that is not often stated is how good the steering feel and feedback is. When I haven’t driven my 575 in a while I always note how much better the steering feels is over my 430 or Porsches.

Spot on. Also LHD market is being led by a very hot US market for modern classics.

Part of me agrees with you. That’s the conventional view of the last 15 years in any case.

But here’s another view. There were more than 2300 Boxers made. It’s no 250. Then starting 13 years later they made around 1000 more manual Maranellos than they made BBs. Maranellos were the V12 Ferrari for a gen that was not born during the BB era. The latter fans are getting old. The former are getting richer. Maranellos are much easier to drive and to maintain. They don’t turn you into a melted ice cream on a hot day in traffic. They are front engined, like the classics. And they never made any more manual V12s, apart from a few febrile 599s.

By those measures, it’s Maranellos that should be 750k. I’m not saying I agree with this argument, but it’s worth making.

I love my 550. It's easy to drive, easy to own and as you note the AC works. But next to a Boxer it looks like a Supra. If you want a 365BB, less than 400 made. I had one. If you want a 512BB, less than a thousand. As rare as a Daytona. An injected Boxer is cool too but basically a Testarossa in a different dress. Still gorgeous but neither as raunchy as the carbs or as dramatic as a TR. 550 is a better car, no doubt. But will collectors push values above Boxers? I'll take that bet.

I agree with you, or part of me does. But in the US, a manual FHP 575 is already more expensive than most BBs, I think?

Of course then there’s the 550/575 distinction, but it seems like gated 575s in the US are already multiple hundreds of thousands and going up, while BBs are around the same or less and going down?

It’s different in the UK and I think Europe where the average gated 575 is still less than the average BB, for sure.

Great point - manual 575s are not just for enthusiasts, but on collector radars too. The biggest “collector vs enthusiast” gap I’ve seen is factory manual 599s. A few dozen wealthy knuckle-heads want them bad enough due to rarity, and no one drives them! . I LOVE my converted 599 but would never pay more for one than a 365BB.

The 575 manuals (LHD) can easily be imported to the USA when they reach 25 years old. RoW selling prices for factory built 575M manuals should increase when they approach 25 years old.

A bunch of us over on BaT had touched this one....some of us had been talking about it on DM's.

    Not proactive seller
    lack of documents
    sitting for a long time
    "high miles"
    "low/no options"
    belts
    horrid carpets (smoker)
daytona look seats are not daytonas they must have been recovered (note the center strip)
underhood glow of "green/yellow" and damage to the hood liner makes it look like it over heated.
One key, black fob (no red master)

If the seller was willing to lift reserve at $120 then there is a reason to be worried.....this car needed a PPI with a cost analysis to get it "corrected".

I hope the buyer didn't take on a total turd......

It would be nice to find an early original 1999-2001 GT3 Club Sport/or 'stock' GT-3 from Japan.

    I agree 10.000 % :) :) :)
+it looks much better and it works for most everythibg except towing a trailer. And the reliability is unbeatable. That said, in Modena I got to see a 512 BB that had done 240.000 kms. with no engine rebuild. I feel the real value is to own it. Not to sell it with a margin.

    Thanks Mate,

Makes me feel OK about missing it.

What about the Verde Zeltweg Car??

I thought that went cheap too... Obviously the Interior was fairly out there?? Perhaps a total retrim?? How much would that cost in a nice color??

I really didn’t watch that one closely.

I would say the comment by @henryr on that one was dead on. I like the green exxterior but….the interior….

The quilted shelf and ceiling helps…but no Daytonas?

The price for now was probably reasonable?

I just don’t get how that car sells for so much more than nifty/ @chris1866 recent sale.

Someday @Aerosurfer and I are going to coordinate a weekend to be in LA and then we need to see @Mirek ‘s ride and then we should all have a nice lunch and talk 456/550/575’s for hours!

I am thinking sometime in Oct when my car comes back!

I would love to gather 20+ cars!

If I did it will 10 TDF's I am sure we can get 20+ Maranello's!
