The Mondial t is a power-steering rack. It might share some internal components with the standard (manual) 348 rack, but they're not the same. Even the tie rod ends are different between the two.

This job is even more difficult than a F355 power steering rack.

    Hello

This thread is scary for a Mondial T owner!!

What is going with the steering rack, is there some known faults?
Could you share the information on how to replace it it could help someone else?

91 FERRARI MONDIAL T POWER RACK REMOVAL . SO FORGIVE ME BEFORE HAND FOR YELLING AND ANY TYPOS . FIRST OBVIOUSLY LIFT VEH. AND REMOVE TIRES. REMOVE BOTH ENDS OF RACK . INNER RODS AND OUTERS. DRAIN COOLANT BOTH SIDES OF PIPES . MOV ALUM. TUBES AS FAR FORWARD TOWARDS FRONT BUMPER. SHIMMY AND WIGGLE RACK AS FAR TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL CUT OUT . SQUARE OPENING TO MOVE THE RACK THROUGH. ANGLE THAT END OF THE RACK UP . THE SIDE THATS COMING OUT OF THE PASSENGER WELL. ANGLE IT HIGH. IT WILL TOUCH THE UPPER CONTROL ARM, THERE ARE A COUPLE OF CROSS MEMBERS UNDER THE FRONT , THE ONE CLOSEST TO THE FIRE WALL IS CUT WITH A SQUARE NOTCH . THAT IS THE EXIT.

You should be scared. If you don't wrench for a living, don't take on this job. The steering rack removal on a 355 is a 10 on a 1-10 scale, this job is a 11.

That "cut with the square notch" clearance is a ridiculous accommodation. Only Italians would do this.

    Indeed.

    Is the fault common?

    Thanks FastVic for the details.
I don't understand if you had to cut anything of if you just took benefit off the existing opening?
Do you have any picture ?

The fault is very common. Just the people willing to do the job isn’t so common.
Nothing needed to be cut. The sway bar stays in place just pushed towards the front of the vehicle. Both ends of the rack. Inner and outer tie rods. I’m sorry I’m really new to posting here so I will learn how to add pictures shortly. The unit is out for rebuilding. So in the way back in I will set aside time to show the way. Sorry Rupp3r. Till next week maybe the following.
