That seems below the current market, don’t know the details of that car.

We expected a good result here, I was able to spend quite a bit of time with 84116 per the images I posted a few weeks ago, and mileage aside, I'd say this is one of the nicest original Eu F40s I have seen.

The market is sending a clear message to the owners: don’t drive your cars. Pretty sad.

all depends on what your plan is.
god willing, i will never sell my cars and their fate will be in the hands of my kids....which means i can do with them what i like while i am alive :)

reminds me of the guy with the other F40 next to mine at one of the last shows, when i asked him whether he drove his or not....his answer was that he never drove it, and it had been trucked to the event and would be trucked back to storage thereafter, because, as he told me, every mile added diminishes the value.....my response to him was that strangely enough, i had bought my car 12 years ago, had driven it through 7 countries for 10k km, and it had risen in price 5x..... :)

    The long way home
I heard chatter of some irregular paintwork on 84116, which would seem odd considering the low mileage - did you notice anything that stood out with the paintwork while you were with the car?

The results have already been posted by others, but all three F40's were sold.

RM sold its Euro-spec example for a world record price by some margin for that specification, putting it #3 on the all-time list for any road F40 (we are talking at public auction, of course). At last, we have a top sale for the Euro leaderboard that isn't the dealer-run auction from April where it isn't even clear if reserve was met and the car sold. #84116 outdid that result by nearly 400k USD. With the sale at $3.3m exceeding the estimate midpoint at $3.1m, this was also the first F40 in 17 tries to outperform its estimate. The last one was 364 days earlier, also auctioned by RM in Monterey. No doubt, #84116's outrageously low mileage contributed to its performance. Mileage is a critical factor to values, to the consternation of many!

The two US-spec examples fared worse, both selling below estimate midpoint. The Mecum car was bid 300k USD higher earlier this year when the reserve was also (too much) higher - whoops, it happens. These latest results combined will slightly lower the average market value of US-spec examples when I update the report in a few days. Still, the Gooding car became the 6th F40 to ever sell publicly at auction for over $3m, a day before the RM car became the 7th (and 1st Euro-spec example). These 7 were all within the last 12 months.

Chatter from who specifically, and did they personally have the car inspected?

I agree with the low mileage it should be pristine, but 32 plus years can bring a few scrapes & blemishes that have been section repaired, I've seen that on low mileage F40s, then again, some people don't know how to tell that what they are looking at is really crappy factory application of original single-stage paint, which 84116 has. When I inspected that car, I saw original thin paint with much weave evident, and I don't recall any alarm bells ringing for me. Images below of when I inspected it side-by-side with another client's Eu F40 with much more mileage, I always thought 84116 was an exceptional example, and I guess the results last night supported that view.

    Well-said, values remain strong.

Sorry to be a "Johnny come lately" to this thread. But could not find the information I was looking for in any of the posts.

Does the price graph include buyer's premium?

Yes, on both sold and unsold high bids. I have my rationale on this and other details in the FAQ section of my website:

Anyone have a gauge on how many non USA cars are in the US now? 50? 300?

Thanks for the data analysis. Are you reporting in US$ at time of auction or adjusting for inflation to give a relative valuation assessment?

The F40 report is in nominal USD from the time of sale/ask - in other words, not adjusted for inflation. Results/asks in non-USD currencies are converted to USD using rates from the day of the event.

An ultimate product that I am building will let you toggle between unadjusted and adjusted.
