Received mine two days ago and yes, the brown cardboard package was quite damaged too, but fortunately not the book inside.
However, I do not like the white slipcase.

Paper and printing should be flawless for this kind of money.

Arrived, thanks a lot Nathan! The shot of Graham Hill laying on a 365 GTC/4 door at the 1971 Motor Show in Lomdon

I completely agree and I would not recommend this book for those reasons. Love the packaging which is excellent but it’s the content I’m most interested in and then the paper quality and photo quality which really let it down. Avoid.

I had a look at the pre-production books earlier in the year in Paris, and was not convinced at all. Apparently things haven't improved.

So what's the consensus of the current owners of the Ferrari 550 Prodrive book.

Are you happy with the book?

Are you guys glad you purchased it?

I’m thoroughly enjoying my copy. I have no complaints other than I think the slipcase looked better in red. The content and layout are great, and I keep pulling off the shelf to read it and look at the photos. I don’t regret the purchase.

I’d be interested if a dual language edition is planned, but given that the description is only in French it seems unlikely.

Indeed, you can see from the sample pages that the text is in French in the left hand column and in English on the right.

It may not impress a learned reader, but I find it interesting and informative.
Paper quality could be better, but after all it's also half the price of a Palawan book...
So it's overpriced, but not more than others :p

To be straight away, the last years all books above 250 Euro often aren’t worth the money
in terms of binding, paper quality, content and pics and this one isn’t an exception
but it‘s one of the books where at least binding, paper and case at least didn’t disappoint.
Yes, slipcase in white is a pain in the ass and altough i‘m a carfull collector and reader
it will show usage in short time…
Content isn’t checked complete but i like the structure from band 1 with the front V12 Le Mans predecessors
to the technicans, technic details, description and pics (yes some lack sharpness, some aren’t well edited)
and especially the „explosion“ pics and studio quality shots from the stripped one are fine to me an i like ist.
To band 2 with the (seems to me) full racing history.

As a 550 owner and book collector i don’t want to miss it and i don’t regret the purchase
but yes, +600 Euro is a though call but collecting always hurt sometimes…

I would be happier in the 350-450 range but hey, 550 books is a nice low number, so it’s ok for me.

I'm not one of those you asked but I'll answer anyway!

Firstly, the packaging was an unexpected delight, like opening a Christmas present. I'm quite happy with the white slipcase. I have enough books with red slipcases and this one seems plenty sturdy enough for the job. I don't see anything particularly wrong with the paper although it is light gauge. The pictures are fine and print quality is okay but certainly not exceptional. No time to read the text as yet.

I'm happy I have it but, of course, it isn't worth the money. I can only speak for myself and comparing with other books I own, but I think probably somewhere between one third and one half of the actual price would be fair. That said, the publisher sets a price and we then decide whether we will pay that price or not. In this case I did and I don't regret it. But the thing is, with all such books, whilst I might forget exactly how much I paid, I will always remember that it was overpriced and that means I will never quite enjoy it as much as it deserves.

I'm not sure about LVP488's reference to Palawan above. The last Palawan book I bought (the superb Racing Through Europe) was considerably less expensive than this. In fact, the only other Palawan book I own, Ferrari in Camera, also bought direct from Palawan, albeit a few years ago, was also less than this (although maybe not when adjusted for inflation) but in terms of quality/value there is no comparison.

    Hi Mark,

I will publish a comprehensive review at Instagram on Wednesday morning (CET).

To give the essence of my judgement in advance: Notwithstanding some issues which might be open for discussion, but don't necessarily have to, this is a very fine piece of work, which covers exhaustively this important part of Ferrari history by drawing heavily on internal information, technical specifics and racing statistics.
