PLEASE post the invoice when it's done. I cannot wait to read it.
Seller can do what they want, they chose. The hourly rate will clear many story as Donnie is very famous romantic Ferrari mechanic story in Beverly Hills. Once parts boy at Hollywood Ferrari Dealer, his future whte 308 arrive but he lost it. Jay leno interviewed Donnie and the story about finding the white 308 again by Donnie. Is a really good story, brings a eye tear. 7+ years ago he is mechanic at shop serving Beverly Hills people and growing fast so move on his own over to Mojave Airplane hanger. I believe he is still charging Beverly Hills prices and he does everything to the car that has any small question. When Donnie does the work, this car is 100% ready for next owner to enjoy. The new Smoking Tire episode is a 12cyl engne full rebuild needed, mama mia!
Yep, you nailed it - he refuses to do anything half-way, and he wants everything to be perfect. That worked for me - I don't want to make repeated trips back to the mechanic, I just want to enjoy the car.
sorry to hear about the circumstances which dictate the sale. What I am trying to understand, 130K for "redoing the suspension, brakes, valve adjustments, lowering the front seats you name it"??? Presumably "you name it" is work of less significance than valve adjustments... i just don't get it. I have seen the Matt Farah Videos, sure Donnie knows what he is doing, but there must be a misunderstanding, error of communication. For 130K I would expect at least a complete engine and gearbox strip down and rebuild + suspension and maybe tidying up the interior. Valve adjustment is not restoration, it's maintentance. I guess an Oil Change would be charged on top of the 130K? Sorry for the sarcasm....
I appreciate it. I'm going through a rough time right now. Sure, feel free to contact me if you'd like the full receipts. I haven't posted them here publicly because they have my home address on them. [/QUOTE] I appreciate that. I'm not in a great place right now to deal with that kind of thing. (sigh) I hope none of y'all ever have to deal with a parent with cancer.
Brent, what I was trying to say is: Donnie probably did much more substantial work than you listed in your advert and it may make selling much easier if you try to sum-up what he did. I cannot believe that the level of jobs you listed, plus some more, can run to 130K. Even at today's prices... For example, "Valve Adjustment" could actually be "Rebuild Cylinder Head", which is something different and would be considered more relevant for a potential buyer, making the care even more attractive and easier to sell.
Sure, I've edited the invoices to remove my personal details. Here we go! If you're interested in the car, please, by all means, contact me. Most low miles clean 328s I am aware of, here, are insured for your ask..... So it's not an unreasonable amount, but be aware that cash is slowing WAY down in "toys' and the crystal ball is murky! Welcome..
I would have him fix the MY on the invoices. It creates more confusion on the year of the car for people who are not reading the whole thread. It says it’s a 1985.
I wish I could edit the title on this thread and edit my first message. Am I missing something obvious, or is there no way to do that here?
No the Edit feature "times out" pretty quickly...but hit the Report Button of your own ost and aske the mods for correction.. That will do iit!
No A/C work? That is a good thing, mine had to be worked on every year. Good luck with the sale, sorry about your situation.
I love the cr and passed on the last BLack /Red on BAT/ My only observation is there are never any hours in relation to engine work etc. Just to see $6500 engine work I sort of want to know what he was doing in those hours and how uch an hour am I paying him.... do we know his actual rate? thx
I don't recall what it was offhand - he has a small team at his hangar, and it's a blended rate for whoever's doing the work. (I know it sounds odd not to remember the rate, but we started the project a year ago, and in the meantime I've restored 2 other cars at 2 other shops, hahaha. I've gone through a lot of numbers in the last year.) I can put you in touch with him though if you like - just shoot me a message.
Where is Donny Callaway located? I would like to meet him. I am incredibly happy with my mechanic Eric Sanders at GTO Engineering. I will not be leaving them anytime soon. I just noticed he is in an airplane hangar. That is my business. We are the largest Cessna and Piper support globally. https://aviationgroupltd.com/
