I would like to thank publically Nick @Aerosurfer who accepted to build the first "Aerosurfer 550 cooling harness kit" for me. The 550 "prototype" kit I received was way too long and he sent free of charge an updated harness with adjusted lengths. If you guys are not happy with the lengths of your recently purchased harness then please yell at me rather than at Nick (lol), or just ask how they should be routed if you can't figure it out.

I did not come out of the bush earlier as my car 550 was off the road whilst I was replacing the timing bearings but after a recent short drive I can confirm that the stock fans seem to run as well as they could and the relays on the fuseboard remain stone cold when they are running, although I must say I have Guido's fuseboard and the weather is particularly cold at the moment.

It is great to be part of a community with such dedicated and passionate enthusiasts who are ready to help each other without necessarily trying to extract insane amounts of money from each other for the simple reason of the cars being Ferraris. Let's try to keep this good spirit if possible.

thank you @Aerosurfer and @Timmo I need to get one of these for my 550, and do a similar upgrade on the 512TR. Need to find some time to work on the 550 and get it back on the road, overdue for a timing belt and some other things, and has sat a couple years due to cooling problems. 512TR recently arrived and should be closer to ready to go, but seems to have picked up a few issues during shipping from Europe.

The lengths are pretty dialed in now and ready for installation for either car.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves... I will happily take more money for these! No offer is too high ;)

But seriously, thanks for the kind shout out. Its been great working with you and I appreciatethe back and forth we got done. I believe in this harness as a true improvement to the platform.

    Alright guys…

I have been working with Daniel @Ricambi America bring my harness to the broad market. As others have graciously stated, he has gone above and beyond working with a small vendor to help the industry get a good source of parts. I am extremely happy to be offering these and have their backing.

They will be the source for getting these and are ready to order.

    https://www.ricambiamerica.com/as1-456-550-cooling-harness.html

I have adapted and refined the design of the harness so now they come ready to install on either 456 or 550 and with both relay brackets.

I built one of these myself a few years back when I installed a new radiator and fans. I pulled the power off the alternator because it was so close. Your kit would have been much easier and cleaner as I had to cut the lines. That bracket looks really cool too. I just zip tied everything underneath so it looks kinda messy.

Of course functionality is most important, but I really tried hard to make the aesthetics (quality of appearence and feel) to a high standard. Afterall, I need to show why a 20+ year old car now needs an aftermarket harness, especially an appreciating Ferrari. I wanted it to be easy and logical to install. Using good components, sheathing, quality wire (was called out earlier on that, now no ambiguity) and proper crimps makes for a consistent and reliable part. No cutting or permanent modifications was a must.

So we've sold a bunch of these in the past few days, and I think they'll be arriving in folks hands really soon. @Aerosurfer put together an outstanding video showing the harness and installation tips. If you recently ordered a harness, please watch this before starting your install. If you're on the fence about self-installation, the video shows just how straightforward and 'plug-n-play' this thing really is.

    Thanks Daniel!

My first attempt at any real YouTube video and editing... I doubt Ill become the next Hoovie or Tyrrel's garage, but I could get used to talking on certain car topics.

It really is quite simple and straightforward to install and proud how well built these are coming out.

I just installed the new fan harness in my 550. Very easy install, worked perfectly first time. Thank you Ryan (AVIMAX) ,Nick (Aerosurfer) and Ricambi. This clearly is a much better method than running all the fan current through some thin carbon traces on a circuit board.
Luckily mine hadn't failed yet, but, of course, it was just a matter of time.

Hello, nice kit! Relocating the highest load bearing systems away from our fra-gil-e (must be Italian) fuse boxes seems like the smart way to go. Do you also make a kit for the fuel pumps?

I haven't done anything to rewire the fuel pumps. On our cars, the logistics of doing a similar styled kit just seem beyond what I could offer for a simple solution. That's one of the great things of my kit, its designed for simple and straightforward installation. I have a working concept installed on a 512TR, but the layout really prevents it from being a simple offering.

It would probably be easier to mount a separate board, but you are then getting into more custom rewiring. There also isnt much extra space in the fuse board area either. In all my research, i havent seen it mentioned that anyone actually has ever tried to do this either.

Since the fans cycle constantly, the rewiring the of fans takes the In-rush amperage off the fuse board and connectors. That's the true benefit it offers. A quicker, more efficient cycle of the fans is a good byproduct of that.

My opinion would be that the Fuel pumps offer more of a steady draw from start up to shutdown that its less detrimental to the system.

A better overall plan would be to have your fuseboard rebuilt or swap it out with one of the available alternatives. I used a board from @theunissenguido . That better beefs up the electrical system for the future.

For 20+ years many of us have been installing a bank of relays to power radiator fans, fuel pumps, and A/C behind the relay panel on 512s and TRs. Rebuilding the boards is just delaying the inevitable. In both cased the output connections are a bad design and are incapable of handling the load.

Hey aero surfer, I’m going to order your harness for my 550 since it sounds like a good idea, do you think I could fit a 612 shroud or fans for improved cooling to my 550?

I have no first hand experience swapping a 575/612 Shroud onto the 550 (or 456 for that matter). I think it’s @AVIMAX that has done it, and someone else recently asked about what was involved on another thread. Daniel @Ricambi America recently just got a batch of harnesses, and I’m working on getting more to him as needed. Thanks for your interest.

A 575/612 shroud with 550 fans will fit in a 550. A 550 shroud with 575/612 fans will fit in a 550. A 575/612 shroud with 576/612 fans will not fit, there is not enough room. I recommend to first do the wiring harness mod as I think it will give the most improvement. If it is not enough, add new 550 (Spal) fans. If you still think you need more improvement, go for the shroud, but I suspect it will not be necessary.

Hey avimax I appreciate the fast and awesome response, what do you think is a better setup 550 shroud with 575 fans or 575 shroud with 550 fans, also do you know what part number spal fan they are ?

I just installed Aerosurfer's radiator fan relay kit on my 550. It was easy to install and the fans are noisier and they move more air now. I'm running the original fans, original shroud. I also noticed on the short drive I took after the install, the radiator temps seem more stable. Further testing is needed, but so far I am very happy with the results. The only difficulty with the install was finding good grounding points for the harness. Several bolts I thought would be good candidates for ground points, in actuality were not.
