Hi all - been a longtime FChat Fan, finally taking the plunge on a to find a clean F430. I was able to find a 2005 with under 20k miles. Clean Carfax, no service records however. I just had a PPI done, and the mechanic found ZERO Fault codes - he said he had never seen this before. Either someone cleared them out manually.. or it is just that clean. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Another anomaly found in the PPI was the clutch wear at 165% - which is impossible. I did drive the car and I did not notice any issues shifting/pulling away. Any thoughts? Appreciate it!

Im not a pro, but here is my opinion:

No fault codes is what it should be. Why would that be such an enigma, Was he being sarcastic about that or something?

As far as if the ecu’s were reset, you can easily determine it by looking at the OBD data, he should have known this and been able to tell you the status of the drive cycle if some components have not finished normal testing phase after reset.

Clutch wear at over 100% sounds like an error.

Who did the PPI, and how familiar are they with the platform?

What else was said about the car not just computer data related?

There are known weak spots in the 430, just for example the headers and exhaust support brackets, transmission mount, ball joints. You should post the PPI results for the 430 crowd to review.

Lots of 430s have no fault codes? I don’t get why he’s surprised. If he’s never seen that before perhaps he hasn’t seen many 430s.

Thanks guys for the feedback.. PPI attached just got it back. I think the biggest unknown is the Clutch Reading.. but like I mentioned, I did drive this and it shifted really well.

I also drove a "recently replaced" clutch a few weeks prior and that felt like the car was completely broken. So I was really happy with how this one drove.

His personal thought was that the headers are a bit overkill on the replacement status - do you know of any indications that it will start to crack/is cracking? Will keep an eye out if I purchase.

If the belly pan is removed, you can see the thickness of the clutch in the inspection hole.

Might be something worth checking if I do pick it up. I think with the way it drives id expect maybe another 5-10k miles minimum.

If a “relearn” was done and the clutch clearance was set with a Launch X431 or something similar, you won’t be able to tell by just driving it.

As the owner of an 05 430 - excellent you are planning to join the club! These are phenomenal cars.

No service records would concern me. This is an 18 year old car. I would want to know what my 430 had been up to for its life. Also how do you know the mileage is genuine with no records?

when I bought mine I got the dealer to dig out missing service receipts from their head office archives. Admittedly a manual 430 is a bigger investment at risk than a F1 but either way, I would recommend. Mine has been almost faultless over 8 years, just spent this weekend zooming around southern England.

Definitely agree. I have seen the Carfax, it was serviced its whole life at a Porsche dealer in CA. And the mechanic indicated that the mileage seems accurate from condition/Ferrari computer scan he did. I agree it is definitely a gamble.

Fault codes does not mean a lot. Are the monitors all set?

I gave up on clutch wear readings a very long time ago. How far from the rear surface of the throw out bearing to the seal flange it will run into when the clutch is worn out? That is the only accurate indicator.

Just curious as to why you find it strange that there are no interior stickes?
I have a 2006 F430 Coupe and I have been working to eliminate them all over the past three years.
They were all at different levels of deterioration, so I started with the worst ones first.
Initially they were done professionally but I soon realized that this is an easy DIY project.
There is plenty of information our there to assist.
All that is left to do are the dash vent rings which will be one of my winter projects.
    Then we will be 100%

I’ve been doing mine as well…slowly, so I still have a ways to go. I feel like some of the first stuff I did is getting sticky again, so I’m getting the “never-ending cycle” vibe.

I did the vent rings early in the year. Those were very easy; you’ll probably need more winter projects!

I guess this was the “before” picture, and I don’t seem to have taken an “after”:

This seems odd, but when I had my last service done my dealer gave me the "Porsche Club of America" discount so I'm thinking it may be a firm that owns a few dealerships and it was actually Serviced by Ferrari but Porsche pulls up when Carfax is searching.

If it was done at the same dealership, it may be worth it to call that dealer and request a service history. Ferrari of Atlanta did that for me no questions asked.

A 18 year old car with no service records; you run the other way unless you have amazing mechanic skills. Granted carfax is not 100% but what does it say about:

    1) Service
    2) Mileage
    3) Accidents
    4) # of owners.
