You can indeed feel proud being the text author of THE Ferrari book, which set the benchmark probably for all times. Nothing can ever repeat this, because FIC was the very first book of such kind. Only one year before its release date I couldn't imagine paying € 400.00 for a book (my price in 1996), let alone spending what's asked today.

And you can be proud being in a similar situation like all those famous artists, for instance van Gogh, Beethoven, Mozart, etc. The big admiration and the big money came late. Unfortunately mostly too late ;)

Doug, you should be proud, it's a great book! I just wonder if, almost 30 years on, we need a Volume II?

On a subject so over written about such as Ferrari and to be the author of probably the most sought after and coveted Ferrari book ever, I think you should be pretty proud of your achievement.

I know many fellow large library owners that say if they could only own one book on Ferrari is would be Ferrari In Camera.

    High praise indeed.

BTW, it's a shame, whoever created the contribution, a shame, that FIC is not mentioned in the bibliography of the wikipedia-article about Doug. Therefore I just added it

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Nye#Publications

(Are here any wikipedia contributors? If so I have a question. Because the article about Doug is a BLP (biography about a living person) the article history sets the following tag onto my contribution: "possible unreferenced text about a BLP". What does this mean exactly and how can I reference my contribution?)

And I am proud to own another -though much cheaper- collaboration of Doug with Geoffrey.

    https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=20825863392

Which I also just added to Doug's bibliography on Wikipedia.

Why it reached that price at Goodwood is beyond me:

    https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/14261/lot/69/

(O.k. I got it. It's signed by the authors, what's worth around €500.00)

I just wonder, how much a FIC would be if signed by both authors and whether such a copy even exists.

Sat down with #801 the other night. I bought it used in very good reader condition. Slowly leafing through reinforced the opinions here that FIC may be the best and ultimate Ferrari book. The photographs speak for themselves but Goddard's colorful (and sometimes tart) commentary brings the book to life.

Reading this stuff about a job my late friend and I thoroughly enjoyed putting together is a very humbling experience. I can only say thank you very much. That book is in dear old Geoff's memory - difficult, short-fused, irascible, gifted, humorous and incredibly generous old bugger that he could be. We worked together for 42 years until his passing in 2006. If you might be interested in reading more about him, try this link:

    https://www.goodwood.com/grr/columnists/doug-nye/2018/5/doug-nye-geoffrey-goddard--legendary-photographer-formidable-character-fierce-friend/

And while I'm here, the Enzo Ferrari biography text for Evro publishing was finalised some months ago - and I have since been wrestling with photo choice and then detail captioning for it. Honestly - hand on heart - we are getting there... In my view it won't be better than Luca dal Monte's masterly work, but it will be different - and hopefully, perhaps, a little more fun?

Thanks for the backstory on Geoff and the attached link Doug.

Ferrari in Camera will remain a legacy to both Geoff and yourself.

A true masterpiece of a Ferrari focused book amongst a vast sea of publications.

Thanks too for the Enzo photographic biography update. It's nice to get a progress report straight from the "horses" mouth.

Unfortunately many of us are an insatiable and impatient lot, myself included :) but I'm sure the end result will be worth the wait.

Don't worry too much if it's not another standout masterpiece - you've already achieved more in your writing career than most could ever have hoped for.

Not sure if it sold at that price - you can click to request to buy it at that price, if it's still available. Unless I am missing something, entirely possible, I have not dealt with that dealer before.

    I missed it :(
That's just about the price I'd be ready to pay; I suppose I'll have to wait for the ebay sellers to adapt to the reality of the market (there have been quite a few units for sale for a while now, priced higher but not selling).
