    Hi Everyone!

I’m back on FChat after a long time!! Once again looking for a 355, and found one for sale in NY at Lux Sports. I sent them a request for service history, asking specially about the last time the clutch, belts, can tensioner , valve guides, and headers were done … yes I know the valve guides / headers would be a yes/no (one time item), but the response i got 3 days after my inquiry was : this Ferrari just had a engine out with all the above . In addition, the following pic was included.

my question - does this seem legit? All this replaced for 17k? And why do the guides / headers unless actually needed? Or is this just a ‘document’ created based on my inquiry ??

has anyone bought from LuX Sports in NY before?
    Thanks

    Who “serviced” the car?

Quick search of Scuderia Service Inc. shows me nothing existing (the closest being a defunct CA company).

that part alone was ? number 1

23 belts (listed as belt, singular) and two valve guides? One air filter for $250.00? Perhaps they have a chimpanzee working for them. Oh, maybe not, a chimp knows better! Plus chimps are mostly trustworthy! o_O

Here's the link to help the conversation: https://www.luxsport.com/1999-ferrari-f355-spider-c-932.htm

I'm curious what specifically is a yellow/red flag for you. For me, I'd say the following based on the limited info:
    • Service document: +1
    • Rounded mileage: -1
    • 3 days for response: neutral
      • guy made a call to service shop, they need a chance to get around to it, receive it, forward it
    • Price: neutral
      • Dealer may get discount for sending all of their work there, plus lack of tax is correct for auto b2b
    • RO/Line Items: -1
      • notes say "convertible top functions well" yet they had to replace the hydraulic pumps
      • "car has original paint and clear film" sounds like a sales thing vs. what a technician would say in their assessment
      • he said it was just done, but that was 10 months ago
    • Carfax: neutral
      • Clean on one hand
      • Little service trail over life of car
I would say be skeptical, but just have another shop close by to inspect it. Might cost you a few hundred bucks, but getting a second set of eyes on it should hopefully validate the work was completed as documented. If the dealer balks at dropping it off at a shop that's close by (Ferrari Long Island, Auto Sport are close, plus I think I used Euro Concepts once for a PPI too), then run.

First time I’ve ever heard of an ‘OEM Ferrari Battery.’ Mine just have regular old Interstate batteries.

Yellow/Red flags?? - I'd say almost anything on the left side of that page given the way it is presented... I'm thinking the 'Qty' may be work hours for that specific job? Alot of the other opinions above did cross my mind, but I didn't want to walk away without getting a second/third opinion...

I think I will ask for a PPI at another place and see what happens...

    Thank you all!!

I have written a lot of repair orders and bills. That one makes no sense. They started with a total they wanted and a few line items and some very non technical person filled in blanks until the number came out right. Bottom line is you are being lied to.

It's not unreasonable to ask what stood out to you . . . sheesh

fwiw, there are a fair number of service and body shops in this space that handwrite their tickets still. Not every shop is tech savvy or wants to spend the money for the apps (not to mention a fair number of guys in their 50s/60s who are great with a wrench but are downright proud to not learn how to use any new tech..), and that's why I focused on content vs. the format.

I agree on quantity being the number of hours because 40 hours x $250/hr = 10k

Just buy it. $17k is just a hint. 355's aren't known for their "cheap ownership". I know I know.. "mine has been perfect".

Get used to it. Around here people are going to read the worst possible meaning into everything you say. They will not read the words. They will read into it what they want it to say. And most of them are not very good with the language.
