The irony is that Eddie Mabo was a Torres Straight Islander, a culture that was relatively advanced and has next-to-nothing in common with mainland indigenous tribes. TI people arrived around 2500 years ago from PNG, they lived in permanent villages and practised agriculture.

That the activist High Court used Mabo to establish a precedent for mainland people was a legal trick, the arguments used wouldn't have worked for nomadic hunter-gatherers.

Mabo is hailed as a success by the left, but there is nothing positive about the actual outcome for indigenous people in remote communities.
