Verstappen complained several times about the upshift, so there could be trouble with the gearbox. Electronic gremlins perhaps ?
Red Bull didn't manage to fix Max' car during the 3 FPs, so he was a sitting duck came qualifs.

 

Really hope RB will be competitive again in Suzuka because otherwise it would mean their car was illegal since ..

By the looks of that I think RB charging up through the pack is not going to be as smooth as it has been. Great job Carlos. I really hope he and Charles have the pace tomorrow to bring it home.

 

So a car that was inspected by the fia deemed legal is suddenly not legal. ? who initiated the investigation? Merc?

 

It's clear they couldn't get the balance right and that on a track they knew was going to be very hard for them.

Mercedes is also very close (and that's why Russell could be between the two Ferrari); race pace is still a question mark.

 

First Verstappen decision is a reprimand for pit exit impeding: “Whilst no obvious advantage was gained by the driver in waiting at the Pit Exit for what is deemed to be an extraordinary long time, the potential for this to negatively impact other drivers warrants a penalty”

 

And Russell is the guy that has questionable ability in wheel to wheel racing, generally prefers to crash into the opposition
