prob needed a software update.
the worst thing about breaking down in a ferrari / sportscar is people slow down to take pics and sometimes laugh etc
2 weeks have passed. Called service and they told me the large battery is defective. 4 week ETA on the replacement. A pillar was damaged and will be replaced. I did not/could not close the door all the way. The car was in New Jersey for months. When it was finally delivered there was no window sticker as the recall had not been completed. I ordered Grigio Ferro which I’d previously ordered on my Pista and TDF. Found out that color is now a $32,904 up charge. Base, including shipping, jumped to 338K. What I thought would be a $410-420K window ended up being $483K. I was able to log 12 miles in the first two plus months. I was lucky it was 6am and nobody was driving behind me. The car just shut down. Warning lights came on and it acted like I had hit the brakes. I’m not sure if the brake lights came on. If I was on the freeway or busy commuter traffic I’m pretty sure somebody would have run into me. Not sure what to say about all of this. Certainly feeling disappointed and a little apprehensive.
I was a bit early to report that my 296 GTS was fixed. After 5km of a nicely planned tour yesterday, all kinds of warning lights came on, among others engine management failure, lights failure, anti lock brakes fail, stability system fail etc. The combustion engine didn‘t run smoothly anymore, but luckily I had some power left in the battery to bring me back to where I started. Second time the car had to be trailered to the dealer within 14 days…
This is extremely disappointing… the failure sounds similar to the guy on Instagram @Andy74b … his car came to a stop on roadside and couldn’t move. Worryingly even the hazard lights didn’t work. Had to be recovered by the AA to the local Ferrari dealership after several hours. Was a week ago and no update tho they did give him a replacement SF90 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cw_Afv1IvP8/?igshid=NzZhOTFlYzFmZQ==
This is all very worrisome. My GTS slot is coming up in the next month or two and now I’m hesitant to move forward with it, especially because the nearest Ferrari service center is five hours away from me. If I wanted to be stressed about being stranded with the nearest dealer hours away I’d have bought a McLaren years ago. . Seriously tho, this recurring situation is giving me serious pause as to whether this technology is reliable enough for me to own.
The stupid test pilots who tarnished Ferrari's name, they all posed wonderfully here, if Enzo had lived, none of them would have entered Maranello. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mine died after 10km from collecting the car... It was delivered with 70km on the clock, and 20 mins later it was on trailer back to dealer with 81km on the clock. My son went with me to collect the car and the first thing he said after the broke down was "I will never buy a hybrid" ... I am guessing the main fuse was blown, as i smelled something burnt. The dashboard went into Xmas tree mode showing all different hybrid system were down. One of the pop up said the battery is empty while the dashboard is showing there are 12km range left in the battery. What an experience for a 12 years old boy lol
Why ? They are selling everything they could produce at very high prices. Soon they will even sell without problem ****ty EV to new riches around the world. Customers are responsible for this.
Eventually customers may wake up... In the 70s and 80s, Ferrari had bad building quality but, being mechanical and electric installments, it was relatively easy to sort out. Now, low quality with electronics is very painful because nobody understands what is wrong and cars are unusable for ages.
it's unfortunate a vehicle of this caliber is having so many issues. I am hoping that a fatality doesn't have to happen, and the vehicles get recalled. I had one on order but dropped it after reading about the engine hydraulic mounts and the plastic casting that combine with the cavities in the cylinder heads. the engine has huge thermal loads, and I can't see the plastic holding up long term.
The other problem with all of this (second to the stranding of their customers) is that once a model of any brand starts getting a reputation for issues it becomes next to impossible to shake. The SF90 has this and look at what it has done to the demand and resulting values cause no one wants to deal with that. Hate the idea of being an early stage guinea pig for Ferrari hybrid engine development. Let’s see if they can figure this out quickly.
Apparently they missed the opportunity with the SF90 - it's a shame, because on the more exclusive SF90 they probably could have managed issues on a case by case basis; with the 296 (which is their mainstream car) they will be overwhelmed and the unlucky customers will be the victims.
Can you go into these 2 issues with a little more information or back ground. The engine hyd mounts and the plastic casting in the cylinder heads. Can you post the articles?
This technology is extremely complicated. Ferrari is not doing too badly. The AMG One is a disaster... That said, our friend's 12 year old son won't have many choices, as hybrids (if not EVs) will be the norm when he will be able to buy a car himself...
yes, I tried to upload the article from Car and driver magazine, but the file is too large. If you can get the November issue page 14 has all the information on this 296 V-6 Several of the quotes are below. " We use four carefully tuned hydraulic tunned mounts to absorb vibration." V-6 120-degree engines are vibration monsters. Also " To reduce turbo lag, Ferrari uses a bolted-on short plastic castings that combine with the cavities in the cylinder heads to directly feed the engines intake parts." last major quote We Needed larger water jackets to cope with the higher thermal loads in the V-6." Bottom line as far as I concerned, all Ferrari's put out Chernobyl heat! I can't see the plastic lasting long term in my opinion with all the heat in the engine compartment. Clyde
