Anyone have an idea on how to reset the front defrost vents on a 430 without having to pull the dash? Mine are popping up and out, leather looks fine, but vent itself is popping up.

Lots of threads on this. Short answer is dash has to come out. No way of getting around it. People will tell you they put new vents I. And “glue” them in. Will last a day or two then pop out again. Dash has to come out to fix this properly.

I did this. My dash vents were up, I took them out, threw them away, bought new ones, clipped the areas where the screws go, put good double sided tape on it, they are flush and look perfect for about 1.5 years now.

Yeah, that's about it. The reason the vents are popping out is because the leather is shrinking and that stretch is pulling parts out. This is most common lately on 360's and 430's of all conditions and all mileages. It's an inferior material design that leads to a sacrifice of vehicle resale value over time. I've seen it on 456's, 550's etc... Ferrari knows of this problem, they knew about it for years and there is no fix. It's going to take a class action lawsuit to get a positive result for consumers.

That situation has existed since the Boxers started using leather on the dash. Its very easily avoided. Use a sun screen. Our TR dash is 33 years old and still looks like new because I use a sunscreen whenever I park outside. But then I use one in my truck too because I hate getting in a hot car and I like to keep my stuff nice.

In addition to a windshield screen keeping the leather conditioned and not dried out should keep the stretching from happening. How many people take the time to treat their leather once or twice a year? Expecting leather to not dry out when exposed constantly to the sun is a bit unrealistic. Same for all the weatherstripping.

Although the leather looks fine, the vents would not pop unless the leather shrank a little. My suggestion is condition the heck out of the leather to bring back its suppleness, then buy billet aluminum vents that bolt down from F chatter Rizzo308 then, unfortunately, pull the dash and restretch the leather and anchor it with the new vents.
