I've pointed this out some years ago.

When SCW did a test on the 'big' 3 Italian 4 seaters the Lambo came out on top of the list: Mazzer Indy, the 365 and it.

I used that test when purchasing what ultimately became the red 365......................coz there weren't any Espada's for sale.

This was 10 years after having a look at a couple of Espada's,one of which was Ray's :(.

I can remember as a teen in around 1972 ,my father bought and sold many cars with 'Izzy Herzog "Down town Autos" looking at an early Espada or the 275/4 bought neither but the Espada he priced a windscreen, that was enough for him to walk away and buy another make his second MB 600.

He was never a Gunna, just preferred Brits and Greman cars . Oh and French if you include the T26 Lago-Talbot .

    No, and no.

However, I love them. Especially a series 1, in a dark olive or grey, with a burgundy interior, sitting on correct CN72 tyres.

Phil C kindly gave me a drive of his around the central coast about 20 years ago, a very well sorted SIII. I'm probably not the person to be rational about such a steed as my allegiance is to vehicles of this period, I loved it. Typical 1970s ride/handling balance which was firm, without being over sprung and over damped like todays rubbish. Fabulous V12 engine note, and like a Mondial, very clever use of interior space, light and airy with excellent vision. You can even go away for a week because it has a boot. Now there's an idea. Not to mention a full size spare.

I found it a step above the 365/400 GT/4 dynamically, I think because the unitary construction allowed it to be some 150kg lighter than the Ferrari. It felt light on its feet.

A certain ticket to a world of pain if you get a bad one. Especially with the heads an engine block, the early cars suffered from indifferent casting efforts leading to porosity. Add parts prices some 50% higher than a Ferrari V12 of the period and a bespoke Lamborghini transmission, you'd better have deep pockets.

There's a reason you don't see these cars in the wild, which is sad IMO.

Mel Nichols also did a comparison of an Espada S3 versus an XJS. He raved about the body control of the Espada and liked the revy engine.

Mel Nichols nearly always went in favour of the Lambo product in any comparison test.

I kinda liked he did that - I generally knew the Ferrari was the better car but he didn't always go for the cliche answer. Diversity of opinion is important to me, even when it runs counter to my own.

I always seem to recall that the Urraco P300 got the better of the GT4/GTB and Countach got the better of the Boxer/Testarossa.

For sure the Urraco V8 sounded much better than a 308 GT4, arguably looked better but the dash was inferior and its hard to believe an all round McPherson strut car would handle better than the wishbones on the 308.

Espada vs 365 GT4 - hmmm - as I've never driven either, on paper I'd still take the Ferrari because the interior is better, ditto for visibility and I expect the engine to be torquier. For sure the Espada would be racier given the engine and its lower.

I think it's a styling masterpiece. I find it fascinating to see images of these cars back in day parked next to Kingswoods and Falcons. They appear as something from outer space and it's amazing to think they were launched over 55 years ago.

What would I know, I also like the FF. Especially in a dark blue or black.

Having also driven one, I'd love an Espada, in green, S111 of course.
I'd also love a Countach, QV Carby car.
    I wouldn't have a Uracco.
And I'd kill for a Miura.

I'd buy an FF too, but possible maintenance issues with the AWD and electronics scare me away.

No, but I'm sure a Jensen FF would be great, I've never driven one however.

Extraordinary a manufacturer such as Jensen with its limited resources was able to stump up the money to develop such a car.
