    Thanks Marcel.

If anyone's got factory documentation showing the headlight bucket variance being discussed was done by Ferrari SpA at the factory at point of production, please post it.

Thanks. But Marcel is a busy man so I might have to make one on my own. Shouldn't be too hard to do.

The finishing date (02/10/96) in the Modis system is incorrect.

Everyday is a school day it seems even for those that have specialised in these cars for over 28 years.

Nice one Karim, great original pics. Much nicer with black (factory) bowls.

Excellent definitive clarification, especially the parts catalog information proving therefore that the option existed, this is why I asked the question, and why this forum exists!

The interesting thing is, some people who ordered a brand new F50 were never told about this option, and, the conjecture exists because we know of at least 2 cars who have had the headlight buckets painted black post-production. It wasn't a particularly popular option so I can see why after all these years even some Ferrari SpA personnel aren't correct - not the first time that's happened!

You are correct, as the saying goes, 'wise men never stop learning' meanwhile, yesterday I looked at a USA F50, and I learned something new.

Does anybody know if this headlight bucket option was invoiced somehow? Or at least mentioned on a factory invoice? I have never seen an F40 invoice where this option is listed.

Despite it being in the parts manual and proof of a Giallo F50 at the factory at point of production with the black headlight bases, I'm not sure Ferrari SpA ever publicized this option therefore it's unlikely you'll see a factory invoice, but anything's possible.

Knowing how Ferrari SpA operated 25-30 years ago, perhaps an internal decision was taken to use the black for the headlights for a number of Giallo F50s (you'll recall Paul Frame's Giallo USA F50 being one of them) and some Argento & Rosso cars without consulting with the client, however a factory invoice could disprove this theory.

One thing is clear, the vast majority of the cars left Maranello with body colored headlight buckets.

The confusing thing is that the spare parts manual is not definitive about the bucket color being an option. In fact the way it's worded makes it more so that black buckets were the standard part for cars not colored Rosso Corsa or Barchetta. If the body colored buckets for Argento and Giallo cars were standard parts it would probably list those too. The option seems to be the colored buckets, which most people picked...

Just above the table is a translation of jurisdictions, could it be that it was an option only for certain counties due to their local type approval restrictions? hence why so few had the black option.

The giallo F50 at the Maranello museum has black light buckets. I wish I got the SN when I was there last month.

But in the moment I thought, naaaa, I can get it off the internet, no need to nerd out at the museum. Wish I had gotten it.

Anyone know which F50 that is?

Am I the only who, for once prefers the USA spec F50? The longer moustaches just look better.
