Thinking about buying a BBI. Are mechanical part readily available. I currently have a 308 and of course have no trouble getting parts. I do all the work myself on the 308 and would continue to do so on the 512.
    Thanks

I'm not particularly qualified to answer this, but since no one else has chimed in yet, I'll add my 2c.

As a recent BBi owner, I haven't felt like it's "trouble" getting parts, but I imagine it will be harder than what you are used to with the 308. I've recently ordered parts from Superformance and Maranello Classic Parts; which arrived within a week to Miami FL.

Thanks for the replay. I use Superformance a lot along with Eurospares. Looks like most of the "normal" stuff is available.

Yes, I've found that to be the case, so far. Especially for "normal" (er consumable) things like gaskets, filters, etc..

Depends what you need. Standard service parts are no big deal but they are not a big deal for a Borgward Isabella either.
Transmissions are fragile and famous for breaking. When it does you will be having a lot of parts made. Same with body and coachwork parts.
There is a constantly growing list of parts you cannot just go to the parts counter and ask for.

I know nothing about mechanics, But I did have my BBI engine rebuilt 2 years ago and My mechanic didn't have any problems with any replacing parts.

Because so few are sourced from Ferrari.

No one in their right mind buys that class of parts from Ferrari. Vastly better are available at far better prices from many sources.

I cannot think of a single part for a BB overhaul I'd get from Ferrari.

They dont even supply the correct valve cover nuts anymore.

Find a good car that is well maintained.
Pay....... for a qualified person that knows BB's inside and out, it will be money well spent.

It's so similar to the 308. Parts are drying up across the board on these cars. Repops are not always the most fun to work with. Carb & distrib parts come to mind - I know, not an issue for a BBi. For much general stuff, I'm a fan of Maranello Concessionaires. GT Car parts are also a lifesaver. McCann (Now Tom Vail) is excellent. Anyway, if you've lived with a 308, there shouldn't be too many surprises.

The most notable difference is that you pluck the motor to do timing belts, which somewhat offsets the time, given how much easier it is to work on an engine 'on-the-bench' instead of climbing over and under fenders for access. That differential carrier potential failure was too anxiety-provoking for me, so I changed it. There are good options for replacements, and it's not too terrible of a job to do. Not cheap, roughly in the same ballpark as a brake job with caliper work but the failure can be many times a new diff plus talk about a hunt for parts, or the cost of getting transmission gears and splined shafts made.

Freak'n fabulous cars! Good luck with your hunt!
