A Ferrari front and center at the Porsche dealership?

Exactly. I think OP needs to ask how did the Ferrari get to the Porsche dealership? Someone traded it in on a Porsche and thought the Porsche was better than what they had. I know various dealerships use the fact that pre-owned cars from another brand are front and center to show that their brand is better, so much so that people are willing to trade in for one.

 

Not unusual that a non exotic dealer highlights a used exotic in order to protect it and help get it sold. Have even seen this occur at an exotic dealer when special cars are in their inventory (CGT, Ford GT, Veyron).

 

What also makes sense is that the Porsche he bought was a lot less expensive, so the Ferrari owner traded down to save money. Not unheard of at all.

 

Probably this, and some guys just trade cars often. If he had a slot for a GT3 RS, the Ferrari would be a good trade-in.

A Porsche GT3 RS is an amazing car but they are still just boring cars. All the interiors and overall feel of the cars is just boring. I even tried a GT4 RS which was like a go kart. The exposed engine with no glass separation is an interesting touch in the GT4 RS but the cars just don’t excite me nor the public. They are just boring

Was gonna say…. Plus they’re so boring that you have to donate an organ to get on the waitlist to pay $100k+ ADM in a year or so.

No way am I dropping almost 400k on a new GT3 RS over a used 812 SF or even an F12. Ferrari as a brand created such a magical gravitational pull of exclusivity, it just invokes excitement to most that see the car. Porsche can easily blend into so many other variants, it’s just not exciting. People disagreeing have to be someone jaded with owning too many cars and forget how special it is to own a Ferrari. I’m not saying a Porsche GT3 RS isn’t an amazing car.

Still don’t understand the comparison between Ferrari and Porsche. Completely different styles. The 911 is IMO the best car ever made (and I own and love Ferrari as well). If you have the chance to drive a 992 GT3 vs an F12/812 you will readily note the difference. You can drive a 911, faster, more confidently (at least in my hands) than a big heavy V12 Ferrari. Just different missions. Cool thing about a V12 is that it is like a Swiss-army knife — can do it all, sport , GT cruising, a little luxury, comfort etc. And the looks / sounds. The 911, definitely has more plebeian roots, and does feel more mundane but if you look past it and really “drive” the car you will understand. Agree with you, more “excitement” for a Ferrari?, perhaps; however after I daily drove a Cali T for 2 years, this also is association we make with “special” or “weekend” cars. If you drove a Ferrari every day, it would feel “less exotic and cool” kinda like a 911 . I am on my 10th 911, and drive a 992 4S daily now with close to 50k miles I have put in it myself.

 

Ferrari has more brand cachet, although I saw three of them on the road Saturday, so they aren’t quite as rare as they once were. Around here (Coachella Valley in California), the GT3 is the preferred track weapon, no doubt.

Porsche is a great car no doubt. So are Ferraris. Porsche is sill making cars with manual gearboxes, so theres that . I hope to own a Porsche someday to park next to my Ferrari. The truth is Ferrari can never duplicate the passion of the cars of the past, its just not going to happen. 512 BBI / 308 / 328 / 355 / F40 / F50 / 288 GTO / TESTAROSSA / 348 / ENZO / DINO / 275 GTB / 250 LM and the list goes on ( GTO ) . The best looking modern F cars are the 488 / 458 / 812 / F12 / F8 And thats it, its that simple. Oh and the moderns still do not evoke the emotions of Ferraris past machines.

Not sure what you are getting at here since the 360 is one of the most acclaimed cars on this forum. Last I knew, you were not a Ferrari guy anyway so I really wonder what the purpose of this comment is.

 

Quite simply, he called a world class sportscar with 120 more hp, a fantastic dual clutch (vs a antiquated single clutch) and a 9,000 rpm redline boring.....which is quite hilarious. The GT3 RS is acclaimed EVERYWHERE.

And I have been here more than a decade longer than you have, and can assure you I am a fan of the brand......and the primary reason I have not bought one to date is everytime I've scraped up enough money (I don't live in some fancy county like rich people do) something else better fit my needs. I'll have another shot at the horse in a few years, so you never know how it will go.

 

I said the GT3 and RS variant are both amazing performance cars but the styling is boring. The car isn’t a masterpiece of design art. The pricing of these cars new including cars like the Nissan GT-R Nismo are just ridiculous. You must have a combination of beautiful style and exclusivity at those price points. I understand the GT3 RS could beat an 812 SF around the track but the 812 is just an experience on another level as a car. I have been in so many 911 variants, they all ended up feeling the same but the 812 is just something everyone should experience before spending that kind of money.
