Ferrari speedos must be pretty wild as well because a few years ago I was following Pat in the Lexus which kept tabs on the speed during the day and Pat reckoned he got to 220 and I sat on his tail all day and never record anything higher than 180
So do you think that a Dino and 308 drive very similarly in terms of handling but the 308 has more power? Does a Dino feel more special to drive - you know how certain cars have this charisma which transcends the sum of the parts and it shouldn't feel so much better but some how does? Or is it all illusory because of that badge, that styling and that back story?
The Dino is a much more visceral experience. The view from the driver seat is what I’d imagine it’d be like sitting in a Can-Am race car. The induction roar on a 246 is second to none. And then there is all the mechanical chain noise. A 308 doesn’t have any of that..,
The view from the drivers seat of a Dino is very special. The induction roar in a carby 308 is by far better as it sucks from the drivers side whereas a Dino is the passenger side. A 308 is much quicker, they handle very much the same as you’d expect as they are close to the same underneath. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
When say an equal quality say glass 308 and a 246 Dino were of similar value and forget todays values -which model would you have ?
I driven a few carb 308 and beg to differ RE the induction roar. I came close to buying a glass 308, but it just didn’t feel as special as the 246, even though it was obviously faster. Perhaps the difference with my 246 was that it had trumpets on the Webers and a non restrictive exhaust??
Trumpets might be the answer, most 308s have a sports exhaust now. 308 much louder induction roar than a Dino for the driver. There are a few others on here that have had, or at least driven, both.
Yeah, i get the louder bit but I’m more referring to the actual sound not the volume and with all that mechanical noise in the background
The mechanical chain noise on engines gets me everytime! Wish I could afford a Dino. I actually fit in them, I sat in one in Melbourne back in 2010 when we went for a visit to Ferrari Fixers workshop. He was restoring a beautiful red/tan 246 coupe and it was sitting on stands with the engine and gearbox out of it and the interior was 90% put back together. I also saw SD’s F50 for the first time also split in half getting the engine oil pump replaced and a new Tubi exhaust fitted which was worth more than my house.
Just saw this on Facebook. They ever make a Nero/Nero 308?? That would be awesome to see. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I hit 220 (or thereabouts) on the Oxley, and you weren't behind me, it was Horse in his very fast Datsun 180B. I believe he was filing his nails at the time, but I think he glanced at his speedo. I went a hair or two faster on the GAD, and only a bit faster again in the next GAD (in the same place) in the Aston - a much faster car, but that was plenty fast enough. A certain black TR was behind me, and seemed to be cruising effortlessly.
