Eric, dastardly people could have so much fun with your contractors. :D

I do hope you get this resolved and a civil engineer would be a good start. You can hire your own civil engineer and have the concrete guys follow his plans, which is what I would do.

Mandalay definitely seems to know his concrete. Idk about how it’s done where, but I do know that what’s been done so far at your driveway has been **** so I wouldn’t trust them.

FWIW, I had mesh laid in my concrete driveway in 2019 but I live in Wisconsin and it’s colder than Moscow in that mf.

I think we call it rebar here, must be reinforcement bar. I’ve had big backyards poured, 4 or 5 inches deep by 40’ x 80’ without rebar, and no cracks in over 10 years now. Mine doesn’t have cars driving over it though. Also I’m in Florida so no wild temperature swings.

Rebar and mesh are different. I think rebar is a bit older and a lot of people moved to the mesh because of its flex capabilities (but that may just be for cold climates like myself). I also found a quote for my driveway at my new house in 2021 when I moved (quick mover, I know) and they put mesh in the quote. I ended up going with black top though because its like 4200 sq ft and concrete was about 30k and black top was about half of that. I also figured I would salt this more due to its size and with concrete thats a big no no.

Unless it is structural you can do what ever one pleases to do. If it works so be it. If you are not governed by any "Standard Installation Procedure " So be it.

Temp doent have anything to do with it to a certain extent. Its what will go over it and the weight of items that will exert on the concrete.

If you have got away with no issue , WELL DONE.

All I have pointed out is what is done on a quality installation. I know I can drive a truck on my concrete and also many others also know.

When it comes to building IMO there is quality , acceptable and CRAP.

This driveway falls into the category of CRAP. Full stop. I was only offering help since he asked . Thats all.

    I prefer QUALITY..

In our language rebar is rod bar. Mesh is the checkered stuff that is welded together

Late to the thread.. this should not be so hard. Sounds like poor planning. And lack of engineering? I built this driveway (house is the modern cedar one) on a 12 degree grade and don’t scrape with any of my sports cars including the f8. Is your car crazy lowered or is it the add on front lip?

Nothing to do with the car. You planned it and executed it perfectly.

Thanks guys. It was a hell of a project - 3 years but we’re loving it. Just wish I had more garage space but land is such a premium and city has crazy rules on lot coverage. The old cabin tear down you see to the south just hit the market

Here are some new ideas for Erics next thread:
    1. I am trying to eat a sandwich
    2. I am trying to tie my shoes
    3. I am stuck in paper bag, how many days until I get out?

I am sure he can turn any of these into a project that lasts several months.

    Serious advice needed.

Survey and engineer came out and took all the measurements. Said it wont work. The only option is to make a long circular driveway with a lot of retaining walls.

The General Contractor that I signed a contract and guarantee with says they won't do the additional work for free. What are my options here? Sue them?

We're talking 10's of thousands of dollars in additional work here. I never would have did this project if I knew they wouldn';t give me a guarantee on the contract.
