Hey guys, quick question regarding header install. First off, removing some of those 12mm nuts had me questioning my sanity when all I could fit was a stubby wrench and they felt like they were on with 100ftlbs of torque. When they finally hit the garage floor I had a great sigh of relief.

With that said, it's time to put the new manifolds on, yay! The new OEM gaskets have a flat side and a raised side. I'm assuming that the raised side of the flange goes outward from the head toward the new manifolds? Is that correct? So, basically, flat side against the head and raised flange against the manifolds? I didn't want to just assume and bolt them up. Thank you!

I went with Kline manifolds with optional heat shielding.

I also have Capristo test pipes and a Kline exhaust to mate them up to.

Be sure to fit new studs and nuts, known to break studs so not worth re using them, cheap enough anyway.

I ended up not using the Kline gaskets they sent with the headers and ordered a new OEM set. Unnecessary? Probably, but I figured the OEM gaskets were cheap enough.

You’ll love the headers. I just installed their 100Cell Cats to complete the full Kline system (headers, cats, exhaust).

15/16 of the studs came out with the nut when I did mine. Took that one stud out with one of these:

Can you post a picture of the Capristo test pipes? Are they part mesh or solid?

I make my own out of a bit of hex bar and an allen screw, you can then reverse the procedure to refit the new ones,
Very useful given how little room to work

That's great to hear. How do you like the sound with the 100 cell cats? I was too cheap after the price of everything else, haha.

I used a stud extractor socket like jerbear posted. It worked well. I then used it to set the new studs in the head.

Sure. Yes, they have a mesh section, which was partially why I went with them over the Kline test pipes (they were also cheaper). Here's a picture...

A picture of progress so far. Next I need to get the rear onto jack stands so I can take the rear wheels off and remove the bumper.

It’s definitely louder, but that was what I was looking for. Been happy with the sound.

Its helps if you measure the distance between centres of the fitted cats, before you take them off- it will give you a reference to work to when mounting the new ones

Thanks for everyone's' posts. Armed with 12mm and 13mm stubby wrenches, candle wax, kroil and now the stud extractor thing. Have challenge headers on order for 55 weeks w trending to Feb shipment.

Plan to swap to titanium bolts on header ends. New studs, OEM gaskets and copper lock nuts (13mm) in hand.

Did you do the heatshields or was that an option from kline?

It’s an option from Kline. They’ll heat shield pretty much anything they make if you’re willing to pay for it.

The main downside of the heat shields is you don't get to appreciate the workmanship of Kline's welds since they are pre-installed, but then again you get to appreciate their work on the heat shield which is also beautiful. And yes you do need heat shields with any header on the 430 so in the end you have to cover up Kline's welds at some point.

Oh I plan to keep the OEM valved exhaust as it is plenty loud already. Just going with challenge headers.
