I try to list some the wishes one read on this forum that would make people happy: - Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff would retire - Sergio Perez is replaced at Red Bull - Lance Stroll stops F1, and his father Lawrence sells AMRF1 - Andretti Global is allowed in F1 - 13 inches wheels make a come back - the next formula in 2016 is for 600kg cars with V12 atmo engine - DRS is banned - Refuelling returns during GPs - track limits are not enforced anymore - Sprint races are abandoned - Helmut Marko to be sent in a retirement home - Massa is declared 2008 WDC - the penalty for provoking a contact eliminating another driver is 1 lap - any form of Social or political statement is banned at GPs - attendance at FIA Press Conferences is optional for drivers and principals - more rescue vehicles around circuits to shorten recovery time - drivers select the stewards at each GP from a list proposed by the FIA & organisers - spectators attendance at GP is made affordable with a maximum ticket price - only team members allowed on the grid before a race - Pirelli made to deliver an efficient rain tyre Any more ideas ?
Abandon mandatory multiple tire compound regulation Laps behind “safety” car do not count as race laps (details to be sorted)
I’d like to see some type of single car qualification. That is, one car on track at a time, for a specified number of laps; no teammate tows, no slow car interference, no ruining somebody’s lap with a yellow or red flag, etc. I realize track conditions can change during a session, so that would need to be addressed somehow. But they’ve done it successfully at the Indy 500 for decades. There should be a way to do it.
I'm with William 100%...plus Giallo 550's suggestion on tires. Though I do think Massa lost fair and square.
400 KG minimum, 500 KG maximum weight; engine unrestricted 3L. At some point you use the maximum weight limits to limit the aerodynamics indirectly--getting rid of the monstrously long and wide cars in favor of actual acceleration and deceleration.
Personally, I didn't find boring, but I take your point. I can see the advantages of single car qualification proposed by Jack-the-lad: it was fairer with no traffic jam, no one impeding another competitor, so no complaint or points deducted, no "towing" from a team mate, etc ... Each driver in turn against the clock. One can argue that the track and the weather conditions could change from the first to the last, of course. Also, Qualifs can take longer with that system. I already gave my opinion on another thread: have no Qualifs, but time ALL the laps from the practice sessions to determine the grid. It works in other series.
I don’t think qualifying is intended to be entertaining. It’s intended to determine the car/driver that can attain the best single lap time, preferably unimpeded by other cars, yellow flags, etc,
But as you know, everything these days has to be sexy and turned into an entertainment to be marketable. I remember the time when there was hardly any public around a circuit the days preceding a GP.
Love that list My personal wants: 1- Refueling, back to running qualifying level laps for the entire race vs. tire and fuel management 2- Tire Freedom 3- Way more technical freedom - let ideas get on the track
The problem with single-car quali is that as you noted weather changes, change the the outcome, any delays stretch out the session, and for those who are at the track, it is exceedingly boring. I did not really mean TV - but that is as well. If anything I would support a hybrid of Friday and Saturday qualifying as was the practice from 1950 to 1997 ish... where you established a time on each day. Perahaps then it becomes an average of those two times to establish the top 10? I think it does improve the show, and it gets cars on track. having gone to F1 races with single car quali... it was terrible. you almost never saw the cars, let alone get any "racing" ... I'm firmly against this idea. ( sorry.) It is one of those things where we've been there - done that ... and it did not work. also - Schumacher was the king of that anyway and he still dominated like Hamilton / Verstappen... so I dont see the chance to change / improve anything. with my idea, perhaps you have to qualify on the two tires you designate for the race... Friday soft - Saturday mediums … etc. Bring some more strategy into the whole thing. aggregate the times, on both tires, and then you are free to start the race on the tire of your choice...
