Hi Everyone, I’ve owned my converted F430 for almost a year now and everything has been great over all with the help of Dr. S and LorenzoR. I purchased the car already converted to a manual using the EAG kit. The shifter has always felt very stiff but now all the sudden I can’t even get the stick to go into the left gate (1st, 2nd or reverse) I’m concerned that forcing it will bend something. Please see the attached video. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thank you guys. https://youtube.com/shorts/2co84woQyD0?si=fzDjnnYKSDK4HB2F
You are going have get the car up, remove the under panels and start isolating the mechanical components. Honestly there is not much to it. Make sure nothing in the external shift mech has fallen apart. The only way to know that is to start looking.
While I would anticipate your issue is in the outer control on the gearbox, I would disconnect the cables from the shifter assembly first and try moving it to make sure. Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
EAG provides a 2-year warranty on the conversion and your issue usually involves adjusting the cables which may have developed some slack over time. Is your clutch disengaging fully? That's the other possible issue which would involve a throwing bearing problem.
I would disconnect the shifter cables by the gearbox/actuator. Then see if you can move the shifter thru all the gate. If you still have a problem then something in the shifter housing failed. If you can run the shifter lever thruout the gate then the issues is in the actuator/gearbox
Thank you LorenzoR! I will give this a shot tonight and see what happens. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
If I bought an expensive gated conversion and it did not work to my expectation, of course I would be straight back to the manufacturer demanding some support. Exactly when was this car converted and are you the first owner or second? Don't get me wrong in the early days there was some very well documented high profile cases but they have almost all been (long) resolved by now. I recently visited EAG's facilities in Texas (while on my holiday a couple of months back) on my vacation to the US. I got to drive their latest manual converted cars and meet their team behind the conversions for the first time. They all drove brilliantly and I saw that they test drive every single one done to make sure they all drove the exactly the same way. Equally they have introduced a repeatability matrix which I saw when I did the tour of their facilities, which yields consistent production quality (think of it like ISO9001 certification or CMM Level 2 if you know these standards) so I don't expect they have almost any issues these days. Furthermore the cars I drove that where converted to gated actually shift much better than my factory OEM factory gated 360 which I've driven tens of thousands of miles with so I know it very well for comparisons. These EAG conversions I drove where "buttery smooth" had fantastic quick-shifting upgrade and perfectly self-centered. In my opinion they are OEM+ . Of course, it is inevitable that there will be a few out of the early cars from the multi-hundreds of cars they converted (being the market leader and all) that didn't work out right or even later got messed with and subsequently broke. Equally I'd expect the majority of them are now resolved by legitimate owners going back and where necessary getting any updated revised parts, or product support. Actually recently I've seen a few of these posts and its getting me very skeptical when someone posts something like this with NO history. What's the real motive? When problems are presented in this way I smell a rat... 1. Typically these recent spate of posts start with a fake burner accounts with sub 100 posts on social media opened years ago and always some bad vide on YouTube. 2. Always the OP never reveals who they really are and have no real history on Fchat. 3. They have never posted anything meaningful, don't mention vin/chassis and they never firstly contact EAG directly to try to get there issues resolved. Just straight onto the EAG hate vitriol . All very fishy indeed. If you genuinely are a REAL person sorry for you but you really should just go to EAG and get their professional help. I'm sure if your having a problem you've got an early revision of a part or someone has messed with it and make it worse. Sorry guys I think we are being duped by "bad practice" gruella marketing tactics. Not only are they both underhand but morally bankrupt marketing tactics...
Trev, I hope none of that is directed towards me as I'm basically retired and I don't care Who does what. I'm just trying to help the guy as I just to help anyone I can Thanks
100% not my friend. How's your car going? Still enjoying it!? Many people are being 'duped' by fake accounts I think and its something I want to get to the bottom of. I'm going to talk to the admins about it.
ok cool. I didn't think it was but just checking. yes all is good thanks to you and I'm gratefull for all you done for me. I'll be reaching out to you someday soon
@beasters Please PM your Name, VIN, and Assembly number so we can track down this car. I spoke to my staff, and have not heard of anyone calling in about this issue. We also do not install Stand Alone reservoirs like you mentioned in another post. Awaiting your PM. Art
I'm curious, how do you know your car was an EAG kit? Your other thread about the clutch master cylinder makes no sense if your car was converted by an EAG kit as they only do OEM style conversions or did your car take an EAG kit and modify it so the seals wouldn't have to be swapped out for the correct ones?
Update: Spoke to the owner, this install was completed by someone else with purchasing our kit and it was an installer error and the car was sold already converted. We are actively working with the O.P. on resolving his issue.
Curiosity, was the kit installed without swapping out the seals and they just added the wildwood master cylinder?
Sounds like it, and Running ATF. We pull the gear box and either replace the seals if the TB is in good shape or replace them completely depending on what the client has asked for. Should have more info on this later once we get a bit more into it to remedy the shifting issue.
Hi Guys, just a quick update. Had a good talk with Art today and Art / EAG is helping diagnose and solve the problem. We'll keep everyone updated. Thank's for everyone's help!
Incredible that someone posting on the largest Ferrari forum for help with their Ferrari gets a 3 page dissertation about why EAG's **** doesn't stink and then gets called a rat, fishy, and out to get EAG. Talk about a tremendous logical leap. There are enough EAG shills out there without you adding to the mix. You obviously have a business relationship and although you are trying to portray yourself as impartial, you definitely are not. This guy is just trying to solve a problem, not attack you and Art's cash cow. OP, it looks like your bowden cables may be misaligned. Try disconnecting them and seeing if you are able to shift into 1st/2nd.
In that video he posted its clearly a EAG shift tower. Who says EAG do only OEM style conversions? as they are the only ones making ALL aftermarket custom parts made in their own spec, NONE of their parts look or acts OEM, therefore EAG does not make "OEM style" conversions, sorry Its an "aftermarket" conversion at the end of the day. In my opinion OEM style conversions would be using OEM parts in the conversion or parts that are exact OEM spec like a duplicate/exact remake, so this is far from OEM.
I did say OEM style, which means no separate reservoir option for the clutch fluid. Seals must be changed and so the engine and trans must be split.
WillskiGT, You have no idea of the context here and taken the rather intellectually somnambulant approach to assassinate anyone who defends them, rightly or wrongly. Its becoming increasingly apparent that perhaps you have an axe to grind yourself and/or like to voice opinions without putting in enough mental muscle to get the facts right. I am absolutely not an "EAG shill" as you put it and I don't think that is "even is a thing". Yes, they have customers and sometimes they fight back against the vitriol but its not as you have built up in your mind. Your words are not only offensive and a gross mis-representation of the truth, they are factually wrong and would not stand up to any scrutiny, just throw away ill-sentiment and conjecture. I'm sure you've never even driven one of their products, let alone visited the company. Its easy to see when people actually visit their Austin facilities (and I encourage people to do this) by how much work they are doing in innovation in the space (which all costs a lot of money for a small business). When I visited I could see clearly that they are still a 'young' company and are learning as they go but they are running a team of highly experienced machinists, designers, engineers and professional installers large enough to easily run into a very large payroll alone. They have also invested millions of $ into their company for all their CNC equipment, 3D scanners, printers and the like. They are a now a designer and products manufacturer with clearly high ambitions. They are innovating in the space that we are all enthusiasts in and have done pioneering and difficult firsts like the gated 430 Scuderia, for which wouldn't exist without their dedication to the cause. Why would any of that be seen as negative? After my visit I decided to take a keen interest to keep things a bit more "balanced" on here. I would also like to encourage them to begin to produce more 'niche' products for parts that are NLA from Ferrari and they are one of the few out their have all the capabilities to do this under one roof - which would be another fantastic asset for the Ferrari community. I'd hate to see things going off the rails like on your typical social media where 0.5% 'voice' controls 99% of the narrative through making it appear like they are the majority - smoke and mirrors and classical hacking of the human psyche. Clearly a lot of misrepresentative attacks went on continuously for more than a year, I didn't respond to any of them and have sat on the fence for a long time but now I believe its time to get the record straight, for me to post this is not at all 'unacceptable' its just trying to ensure that legitimate posts are delt with appropriately without the usual 'hang them' going on. What is unacceptable to me is lying, cheating and fabrication of the truth. In my book that is not a fair and balanced way to conduct anything and while its true that I supply software (and nothing more) to them I also supply software to everyone else globally too (including their competition) so I feel like I can have an objective opinion just like everyone else, except in this case I have driven their products (unlike most people commenting here) and they drive very well if working as designed. I also know of at least a few account posting on here that ARE fake so I assumed this was just another of them which is why I called them out. Obviously that car isn't one that was even done by EAG as has come apparent in subsequent posts and I wish the owner success in getting their issues resolved.
Too funny. You're talking about a company who has made those 3 tenets the core of their business philosophy for years. Now they are "turning a corner", even though they've "turned this corner" 3-4 times before. EAG made multiple fake accounts and posts here over the years to give the impression that things were going better than they were. You have multiple Fchat members who had to threaten legal action and file police reports because their cars would go missing, EAG lied about their capabilities and which cars they could convert for years. You do great software work and as you said, you do it for everyone in the business. I think remaining neutral is probably the best stance here lest you be dragged down by EAG (or any other company's) failures or issues, but just my two cents. I'll see myself out of this thread. No need for additional back and forth.
Starting a company from scratch is no easy task, I can sympathize with how difficult it is to get past the first 3 years and still exist. There is no doubt that they made some 'rookie' mistakes in the past and (inevitably) being in the USA lawsuits ensued. I would say actually that happens to many, many startup's (often, just not so publicly) the first time around before experience kicks in or they go to the wall. I absolutely agree with the community here that in the early days they took too many 'pre-sales' before their core product R&D was completed (and I think in hindsight they would agree with that too). Lets hope they learned their lessons well. Believe me, I am watching this intently, all I want is transparency, fairness, decency, honesty and respectfulness. I want our community to benefit from niche companies bringing to the market products that benefit us all.
A lot of thread drift here. @360trev - I think EAG's business model is flawed as there are only a limited number of cars available to convert but if they start manufacturing other parts, like Hill Engineering does, that would be a huge plus for the fleet and a reason for EAG to survive and profit. I've been watching sales of 360's for quite a while and it does seem like converted cars aren't bringing any premium over F1's that could cover the cost of the process. So the only reason to do a conversion is for the fun of it. How many people are going to go through the expense and loss of use of their car for just that? I think less and less.
