I think that was included in the DVD of Grand Prix, as I specifically remember a part where Garner was annoyed about Monegasque shopkeepers pestering the cast and crew during filming, because of the inconvenience it imposed on them.

Garner went off on local holding up filming of him being rescued from harbor. He said he was freezing wet, and told the local he was going to throw him in the harbor and hold him under if he didn't move. Funny, he was pissed and rightfully so.

Yes, it is worth watching. It is dated, but it captures the excitement, tragedy, stress and joy of a unique period of auto racing. It has some beautifully filmed segments and an excellent sound track. While the story is factionalized, there is a lot of true people and representations within the film and a lot of race footage. It is fun to spot the real drivers among the actors and the period race tracks as they were then.

Frankenheimer was a genius. This movie is considered groundbreaking. Hell, I watch it every time it’s on just to see Jessica Walter.

This is a question! Absolutely worth it. If you are an F-1 fan of any sort... or gear head. it is still the very best movie made about racing to date.

…and is still with us, fortunately, although her life has encompassed much more than acting, also in fashion and especially music. Her Wikipedia page is quite thorough. Of the film’s principal actors, only she and Eva Marie Saint survive.

I should have been more clear…Eva Marie Saint played Sarti’s (Yves Montand) lover, Geneviève Page played his wife. Both are still living, as is Hardy, who played Barlini’s (Antonio Sabato) girlfriend.

I did mean Genevieve Page, a grand lady. Alas Francoise Hardy is not well. I interviewed her husband the great photographer Jean Marie Perier 16 years ago for the Miura book. I liked Eva Marie Saint in North by Northwest too.

Just enjoyed watching the making of very much, what a great era.

Hopefully those who systematically criticize all racing films from their couch will now after watching this begin to get a clue about how much work is involved.

Interesting to catch Princess Grace telling Montand in French about Ascari's harbor crash a few days before he died in Monza.

Grand Prix is by far still the best racing movie... even if the cars are Formula Fords dressed up like F1 cars... the combination of real footage and specially shot footage is fantastic. I guess health and safety today would mean you cant do this kind of stuff anymore. When I watch Rush, or even Ford V Ferrari.. the in-car scenes just seem slow... vs. the reality shown in Grand Prix. The other thing that many dont realize is the Spa footage shows actual race-winning footage and shows Stewarts crash at Masta... one of the most famous races ever, on arguably the greatest track... and then, of course, the Monza Banking... while by 1966 it was not used for F-1 it was used for Sports cars.... all that makes this film a masterpiece.
