Not meant to be a snob topic as many high end collectors only concentrate on one brand .
More so wondering what diversity you have in your collection.
Plus you get to define luxury !

Have to say if and when a recession drives vendors of any brand (watches, cars, et all) to start returning calls I won’t be answering. If I didn’t get calls in the good times I’m sure as hell not buying from the starving salesmen when they need to make draw.

I've owned just about every brand in my years of "collecting", from Swatch, Tag Heuer to Patek, FP Journe. In the beginning it was a shotgun approach, buy as many watches as your budget can afford, to then learning about the history of the brands, learning about different complications, learning how to wear the proper watch to different types of occasions etc. Its a journey that continues...

    when I collected from 2017-2022 I had

    Rolex GMT red and blue
    Rolex Sub green
Rolex Daytona yellow gold black face
    Rolex Daytona stainless white face
AP Royal Oak Offshore brown and blue
    Patek Vintage 3700

All of these were new from AD except the 3700. These were not exactly my favorite watches, just what I considered to be the most liquid watches. Upon finally receiving the stainless Daytona in the summer of 2022, I cashed out. I made a small profit dumping the entire collection at once to my Patek dealer who then retailed it. However, the market dipped right after. I am not a flipper and do not see these as investments. I truly enjoyed watches up until the point that I no longer enjoyed them. I do not know what ruined the hobby for me. Toward the end I felt they were getting to much attention. Nowadays i am the type of guy who would rather dress like a bum while driving a Ferrari.

Still runs the gamut - Patek, A. Lange & Sohne, Rolex, FP Journe, H. Moser, VC, IWC, JLC, Breguet, Parmigiani, Cartier, Blancpain, AP, Franc Vila, Franck Muller, Omega, Tag Heuer, Swatch & Panerai.

Although lately I've been consolidating more into Lange & Patek.

Just 1 Rolex Datejust from 1994.

Saving up for a 2nd one now. The brands I like and can afford what I like include VC, Breguet, and Rolex.

What is your cut-off/definition regarding luxury brands?

Does vintage (including or excluding pocket) count?

    Regards,

    Art S.

Longines for the 'name brand' low-end cutoff - great old Swiss brand at exceptionally fair prices.

Absolutely! Prefer solid 14 or 18K gold vintage over new steel, Rolex Milguass excepted. Pocket - meh.

I have some vintage wristwatches that would meet your spec. but I prefer pocket watches - my jeans have a pocket designed to accommodate them.

    Each to his own.
IMO, pocket watches definitely count as ‘luxury’ - the ‘meh’ was for my preference for wristwatches.
