Not perfect but close enough no one would really find it offensive. I think it looks amazing. The car has incredible presence. The red mist is stunning. 67 miles so far I love it
It sounds incredible. The pops and burbles are so good in 2nd and 3rd. Start up is loud in a good way. Obviously 70 miles in I have 2000 RPM yet to experience. few points coming from a regular C8. The carbon brakes are different in feel to the steel ones. When cold they need a lot of force. More so than the 765 LT. The overall feel of the car is of higher quality and the interior carbon is plentiful, relatively cheap, and beautiful. You’re crazy if you don’t spec it. The carbon wheels are stunning. The car looks menacing and wider. It is, but it appears wider and shorter. I know it’s not shorter but the new dimensions give an appearance that’s somehow larger and more compact at the same time. You’ll know what I mean when you see it. The torque curve is definitely shifted up. The pull is decent below 6000 RPM but certainly everything fun will happen above 6000. Going to do my best to get there before winter. My buddy took delivery a month before me and ran a 10.6 at 131 mph on the street with a Z07 convertible on non carbon wheels. This car is suitably quick. I’m expecting mine, without the aero and with the carbon wheels, to be quicker.
Couple other quick thoughts. It feels a lot lighter and quicker to turn in versus the C8. Im sure a lot of that is due to the reduction in unsprung mass. The transmission is tuned more aggressively. The steering feel is better. A lot better.
It is very loud at start up time unless you put it in quiet mode. I do not start the car before 8 am unless in quiet mode.
Beautiful spec, congrats! Also, great feedback thanks for sharing. I know it’s still in break in period, but with the higher torque curve do you feel it’s still as fun as Stingray at the lower speeds while getting around town, or does do you feel it’s needs to be kept at high revs for the fun factor to be felt?
So this may be an issue with me. That's what I'm worried about. My car is valet parked. Is it difficult to put in quiet mode and then will it stay in quite mode when the valet wakes it up? Because I fear it will set of every car alarm in the lot! Can you put it in quiet mode and it will start up that way or do you have to put it in quiet mode again after leaving the car? Basically, if if was in quiet mode when it was put to bed does it stay there until you leave quiet mode the next day? Any info would be helpful.
You can go into the user pages and set the exhaust start-up as "quiet". I believe it stays that way. I will be researching this very thing over the weekend.
My car came in today. Won't be able to get to the dealer until mid November due to work schedule. Going to drive it 10 miles down the road from the dealer to have it Expelled/tinted and then to my race shop for lowering (.86" on stock suspension), alignment, and to have custom seat mounts made to lower the driver's seat. Will also add 15mm Paragon spacers for the rear wheels. Going to be a bit of a rush to do this before significant snow accumulation.
Apparently my problem is a faulty or disconnected fuel pressure sensor. 12 hours worth of work to get at it, so car will be sitting in a service bay until at least early next week. Beautiful weather here for this weekend, so not at all happy.
I can confidently say this car sounds better than my previous 458 and 458 speciale. I still am in the break in period.
Kind of kills the case for spending $180k on a 14 year old 458, when a new Z06 can be had for less once supply catches up to demand. With CarPlay and a warranty to boot!
I drove my friend's C8 Z06 back to back with my 458, and I personally thought the 458 sounded slightly better. The pops and burbles of the Z06 are great, but I liked the overall tone of the 458 better. They're DAMN close though, IMO--and of course, everyone will have their own opinion. Both cars have a weird resonance/boom/drone around 2500-3000 RPM, but the Z06 has a wider rev range where that was the case, unfortunately. Both are amazing cars that actually drive more differently than one would expect (again, my opinion).
The engine has to be dropped to replace the faulty sensor in my car. I'm not sure if they mean completely removed, or just lowered. At least the part's inbound and there's slim chance I'll have the car by the end of this week. My goal is to get past the break-in mileage before winter, but the window's closing for five hundred (s)miles.
I’m a 458 lover. I actually had 2 458s. One 2011 Rosso mugello and one 2014 in GS. Then a 458 speciale in RS. I probably have 15k miles in the cars between them. In sport mode the Z06 has way more burbles in the lower gears and also a better top end tone. The improvement in technology and comfort is so noticeable. As a daily ish super car, I can’t think of ANYTHING close. I was in my friends Huracan Evo Spider on the weekend. Cramped, uncomfortable, terrible to get in and out of. That marble looking carbon is so ugly. Not for me. I will say this in the 458s favor, especially the 458Spec. I don’t think the Z06 will dance like they do. My speciale was magical. However my Z06 is a convertible (rock solid too) and my 458s were all coupes. The 458 spider I drove was a jiggly mess. So in some sense I’m comparing apples to oranges.
