Started the process of Classiche of the GTS. Boardwalk Ferrari has the car and should take a month to go back and forth with the factory. Car has been there for a few weeks. Probably no response until mid November. I will report back when I hear from them. Next up is complete service, dry ice and color correction. Have a few minor cosmetics to address, extremely minor. Finally, will be on the Lawn at Amelia Island in late February. Will throw some pics up once I get them. Book may take 6 months or more to get? Who knows. They only sign them 3 times a year. So it could be awhile! Cheers!

What is the point of it? Not trolling, genuinely curious. I got the Kardex for my early 911 because it's useful to know how a car that old left the factory. But for a 355, what information are you obtaining? Or is it just a picture book with Maranello pixie dust sprinkled on it?

Basically pixie dust, but the aftermarket shows you get near your money back with it, plus it doesn't hurt if getting judged. I think it is really cool, but cost ends up just being (price of Classiche) + (value added for scoring) + (price Classiche has increased since you had done) - (depreciation of Classiche value) - (opportunity cost of Classiche cost) = you will get 78.329% of the Classiche value back at resale. :D ;)

They dropped the price of Classiche, pretty reasonable. Car is 5775 miles. Original. Special car. Having owned 9 of them, it is the best of the best for me. My 8500 mile 99 GTB was spectacularly special, but not as nice - cooler options and a unique, but not as tight as this GTS…. So, document it with pixie dust, bless it as such by Maranello, enjoy :)

Got the email from Boardwalk yesterday, Moving along nicely. Chris Williams, one Steve's guys, said it is the most original and exacting 355 they had ever seen. Zero mechanics tracks or modifications from new. Zero bolt turns on almost every component. Truly a time capsule and incredible to show no actual wear anywhere. Ferrari could use it as "The Standard" by which to Classiche others. I said, "please put that in writing and make sure the men in Maranello know, LOL." Ordered tires for it. Waiting on Italy to ship a factory Ferrari stamped and labeled battery. I ordered Michelin Super Sports that came in today, original sizes. I like the bigger rears, but trying to keep as delivered, which was probably Pirelli's...but I can't stand them and will not buy them. I am going to drive the car sparingly and just can't do it on Pirelli's! I also have a dealer delivered muffler that was ordered with the car in 1997. I can't find a duplicate anywhere. No stampings and no name that I can see. Possibly from Australia, but that makes no sense. Once the book is done, I think I will have them install it. Hard to drive car with factory muffler. It is perfect and will go right back on to show. Torn on what to do, but every 355 I have owned except one was a Capristo. I had one Tubi car, but it came with the car. This is a small sport exhaust/muffler, with a smallish center collector and two small muffler-resonators before the tips. Has an "elegant" stainless steel bracket that "hangs it." Will get pics. BUT, if I truly show the car, then I can't use the muffler....decisions, decisions. Hope to get some pics next week. Really had no real needs other than the first and only major in 26 years :) Some bonnet and hood struts, a rear main seal, the battery and all the fluids, etc. Thinking about a set of seats, so these stay perfect. Trying to decide how to best protect them. I have the original satin seat covers, but don't want to damage them either or accidentally tear one. Of course these cars are mean to be driven. It is a museum piece, but I don't on a museum.... or do I ?!? Nearly 15 weird 80's, 90's and some early 2000's vehicles, I might just have to create one! But alas, it needs some miles. I have never done more than 7-800 per year on my other 355's, so this will stay pretty ridiculously low. I figure 5-6 more majors in my lifetime, if I am lucky :) Cheers. -R

Most people prefer Michelins at town speeds, they feel better. Pirellis really shine with more aggressive driving.

I have a set of Michelins now because pandemic limited availability, but I'm still mad at them for Indy F1. I will never buy Michelin's voluntarily.

To each their own and all that, but this is the point at which I start to wonder why? Is it Classiche that demands factory-labelled (and, presumably, marked-up) batteries?

I have always preferred the factory batteries on all my cars - at least, AC Delco in GM, Motorcraft in Ford, etc, etc…. If I spend $200, $300 or $400 on a battery, I don’t care. I like the originality and not trying to save any money. I do have a Dakota Lithium in my 88 BMW e28 and I could have gone Odyssey or Dakota in the 355, but being a show car and original, that was the reason. Why I put weight into the tires and trying to convince myself to keep stock muffler [emoji4]

What are the current regulations to keep classiche on a vehicle once obtained?

I’ve considered it for mine. Yet if it requires dealership service every year, I’ll pass since I enjoy working on the car myself.

In reality among owners there is the attitude that once Classiche, always Classiche. However, Ferrari and the dealers have tried to move it towards a more frequent renewal and revenue source.

    Rob,

This GTS shipped from the factory with Goodyear Eagle F1 Fiorano, right rear started to show one of the belts at about 5K miles, must have been a soft compound, this car was never abused let alone driven. Bask in the 'garage queen' Glory. Keep updates coming

Ahhh… that’s it! Not sure of getting those again (?) LOL.

Will send you pics when done and on the Lawn at Amelia. I was in your neck of the woods for the last Air Races. Had no time to ring you, but wanted to touch base. All the best and I hope you have less snow this year [emoji2957]

Well Happy New Year! Finally making headway on the 355! Boardwalk Ferrari says it is the easiest to service, zero changes from delivered, most original 355 they have ever experienced! Truly amazing. We have decided not to dry ice. Lightly clean and just keep it like the factory intended.

you are telling me these subpar judges at Cavallino aren't emotionally swayed by a layout of tools, manuals, and a red book? :)
