I have a story about being in the Chrysler Design studios on a summer program from Art Center. This would have been the summer of 1977.

    1. The 1979 new full size Chryslers were in final detailing. They were a turd and completely the boat on where the trend was. I expressed this thought to one of its designers who took me to a series of mounted pictures that had the various proposals that resulted in the turd. He knew this was not the right answer but the photos showed that at every step Chrysler management had taken the worse choice to proceed with.

    2. In the same studio were what would be the 1980 Cordoba and Mirada clays. The group of students were advised when the big management reviews were coming up so we stayed unseen. But we could see what was going on. The 6 designers in the cubicle that were doing the design all got hang out in the cubicle. Every once in a while someone would peer over the top of the cubicle to see what might be going on. Standing at the clay in actual meaningful conversation was the VP of Design (Dick Macadam), the VP of Product Planning (Hal Sperlich) and I guess the studio manager. Then there was a group of folks milling around not engaged in the real conversation. They were probably planning which watering hole for lunch that day. After a sufficient period of time the crowd dispersed and the studio manager told the 6 impatient designers (actually 12 since it was 6 for the Cordoba and 6 for the Mirada) what had just happened so they knew what to do next.

Within a few years at least a 3rd of that group left Detroit and moved to SoCal to be part of either CALTY or NDI.

Several designers I know have created courses teaching the use of AI tools in design. It's coming.

I've seen a lot of examples, Vizcom and Midjourney. Looking forward to seeing how I can use them in the design process.

We might want to start a separate AI thread sometime in the future. Hope to be using some AI tools in a few months or so.

Both Vizcom.ai and Midjourney.com are available as websites that can be accessed via computer, or portable devices.

The ErreErre Fuoriserie Giulia retains a lot of the Quadrifoglio’s vital bits, only it repackages them in a carbon body inspired by the 1962 Giulia Super. In fact, ‘inspired’ probably sells the design short - it’s almost a recreation

The show car for Auto e Moto d'Epoca in Bologna featured the manual gearbox, too, which feels very odd to see in a Giulia cabin for UK eyes but will surely be the preference for those customers after a more traditional experience. A sill plaque suggests that 33 of these ErreErre Fuoriserie Giulias will be built.

As is restomod rule, especially when reskinning a car in carbon fibre, the work doesn’t come cheap. Expect to pay €400,000 for one of these, though that does include a donor car (but not VAT). According to Motor1 Italia, the work to make a Giulia into a Giulia should take about six months. During which time you can think about its best angle…
