What Ferrari is a ****box? If you don’t like Mondial, cali, Porto, Roma just buy used mid engine car with 500 miles on it. I really don’t get his beef at all. Once you actually make an effort to become a customer, Ferraris allocation process is actually less BS than Porsche.

Everyone likes Rolexes. I don't like Rolexes. The implication here is that there is something wrong with me like there is something wrong with Leno.

You almost got it, you used to like Rolexes, that is until they wouldn’t sell you one; even though you said “do you know who I am?” Now you dislike them so much in fact, that you’ll never own one ever in your life.

He actually did, Leno said he had to buy other cars first before they would sell him the car that he *really* wanted.

As I said, he faults a company for treating him what? The same as you and I?

Some consider that bad on Ferrari’s part.

I’ll let folks here make up their own minds.

Really my biggest takeaway from this thread is that you don't like Jay Leno very much.

I got to sit in with Pauly Shore at the comedy store back room one evening, there were other comics there…… in vino veritas.

    100%.

What qualifies the "league" here exactly?

Would you expect your half-million dollar Ferrari to come with a welded chassis that looked like it was finished by a 6-year old?

I listened to that and I didn't feel like he was coming off as pompous or special.

It wasn't about him...it was about the entire concept of having to buy multiple things you don't want, in order to buy what you want. Which, many more people agree with, is stupid.

You do seem to hold some personal angst against the guy. As Rifledriver mentioned, who really gives a ****? He doesn't care.

Curious, what method do you suggest in distributing dividends? Are you a communist? (I'm totally serious, not being sarcastic) If you are, no problem, I would never debate you outside P&R, I truly ask so I would understand and leave it at that.
Yes on the former, on the latter: Yet here you are.

No, not a communist. Also very curious as to how you got in that twisted direction?

In America, as Americans, we generally subscribe to our own choices and not forced ones.

You said you disagreed with Ferrari distributing a finite number of cars to those who have contributed across their whole business in the past, yes?
If you disagree with Ferrari rewarding long-standing customers with their limited edition cars, what other method do you propose?
    • Should it be a lottery system? (How Commies did it when there was a finite number of things to distribute to people.)
    • A bribe, which, again, is a hallmark of Communism.
    • It can't be first come, first serve for Leno since the limited cars are already allocated.
The only thing left is they create extra ones for 'special folks" because "do you know who I am, dear comrade?" (which no longer makes then 'limited edition')

Again, I'm not here to debate if you think Ferrari method is socially unjust, if you do, that's fine. I'll leave it at that.
As to anybody forcing anybody to buy or not to buy a Ferrari in America, where did that come from? I'm literally arguing a business can choose and should reward loyal customers that bought across their product lines with their best limited edition products, and folks that I would least expect to do so are saying these business should follow a more socially just method.

The world has truly entered switcharama.

I actually find the Ferrari method preferrable to the current Porsche method. Of course, every Porsche dealer has a few customers that can get whatever they want, for the rest of us it is paying ADM's. 18 months ago, they started getting ADM's on regular, non-GT 911's!

The Ferrari method is buy used and wait, or place deposit and wait. Anyway, after multiple cars, you get offered more limited cars.

I guess neither model is perfect. I stopped buying Porsches because I fundamentally could not stomach being asked for a small ADM on a 911S! or a large ADM on a GT3 Touring. However, you sure do get the car a lot quicker than with Ferrari, if you are willing to pay the ADM.

I guess you could say paying sticker for a used Ferrari is a form of ADM in itself, but I find Ferraris used prices to be purely market driven VS Porsche ADMs witch are usually higher than the market premium. Neither system is perfect.

I guess Jay likes McLaren because all he had to do is pick up the phone and say "I want a P1". He didn't have to buy a 570 and McLaren GT for the wife to get it. It probably doesn't hurt that he is a McLaren F1 owner. Just the parts he buys for servicing that car are worth more than the average car, so its not like they don't think he is a VIP.

Oh ok, disregard. No. I do not disagree with that at all.

People are referencing him saying he wanted a limited, special edition car, and got snubbed...of course. I think that is just speculation. I mean regular cars. There are some new, non-limited/special models that you can't even order without having a history with them or buying first 2-3 models of cars you don't even want in order to get in line for a new build. I think that is what he was talking about.

If someone can show me where he referenced wanting one of the limited models with no prior history, then yes, get over it Jay you are not special. I don't think that was the case though, personally.

I would guess the you can't just get what you want as the pain point with Leno.

My guess is that he just wanted to be able to walk in a dealership and order a car. Nothing wrong with that expectation.
Sure expecting to have no history with the brand and asking for an SP3, not realistic.
But if you want a 296 you should be able to put a deposit down and wait your turn (as long as the order book is open).
In recent years the company has added allocations for folks new to the brand, sort of waking up, a little.
